Rated R for a crude sexual remark

is it really rated r for one remark? i havent seen it...but just wondering. must have been some comment to piss of the mpaa so bad.

reply

Yes, sadly, it is very true. They didn't piss off the MPAA. It's just that it's one of those terms that gets an automatic R. Kind of like teen drug use merits a automatic R. It's basically a slang term for oral sex. That's it.

It was referring to pedophilia.

I mean, this was an emotionally intense movie, I don't think it was meant for anyone under 18 anyway. Excellent film though, would recommend it.

reply

It was in that context but I don't think that was why it got an R.

"This movie..." does a good job of explaining why movies seem to be rated unfairly, without any realistic connection to modern sensibilities.

The MPAA is a sham and should be dissolved or else they should be MUCH MORE transparent.

completley ridiculous.. that line in this movie does not merit a rated r. there is no violence and really no language in this movie just that one line. ru kidding me. even pg-13 movies are alowed to drop 1 f bomb. besides that line didnt even need to be in the movie, and the scene it was in seemed like it was already cut. after the kid says that the main kid throws him against a wall and you expect something else to happen but it just cuts to the next scene. very strange that line merits a rated r i just dont understand

reply

It's strange that the line would merit an "R" because the kids are saying (and doing) worse in PG-13 films, but on the other hand, it's strange that line was used at all in this film. I never had the impression that Ray had ulterior motives, and that line just seems to put the relationship in a hazy light. On the other hand, this is how boys talk, and the idea of an emotional bond between males is too much for many male teens (of all ages) to handle without belittling it.
