Well, it's kind of obvious that this film references Lion King. I saw this on HBO India which leads me to ask which one you prefer?

Lion King is a quality movie, with deep story, amazing character development, strong emotions, funny moments, and amazing ending. A true masterpiece for me, as it stigmatised my child age.
However it does not mean madagascar 2 is bad, it is actually good enough, but there is no true quality. It is just a funny (at some moments) movie.
I recommend both but my favorite is Lion King.
