I didn't like her character in the first one. And now she has a bigger part which, in my opinion, was a terrible choice because she is annoying. Actually, there were two moments in the movie when I thought she had died that got me very excited.
Yes, one of the few major flaws with the film. That heavily forced Jewish accent really annoyed me and they should have found another way to take care of Makunga (Baldwin); just left her dead with the Penguins gag and that would have been fine.
When you're facing a loaded gun... what's the difference? -The Departed
It's funny how we are talking about offing an old lady in a kids' movie. I agree tho - I hated her. However, she is the center of a plot that ties together very nicely. Here's a sort of list.
SPOILERS
-I never saw the first one, but I assume that she was the reason Alex got caught, from the summary.
-Her tour guide is full of New-Yorkers, and then they have their jeep stolen. Now, if the old lady was not such a b**** I bet the New Yorkers would have recognized Alex early on.
-Alex and his dad have this "forced" relationship up until the rite of passage. I am so glad afterwards, Zuba is legitimately ticked that his son kind of decieved him and his a bit of a dooj.
-The old lady does all this New York spirit crap that seems to indicate that New Yorkers can exist, and worse, succeed, outside of the armpit that is NYC. Ok I'm biased.
-They build a dam...kind of a throwaway idea...I thought she was just babbling.
-Frankly, I was not even expecting the dam to be a cause of the water hole drying up.
-The dam gave Alex the urban adventurer a chance to use his strengths.
-His dad got to save him once more, and then Alex saved his dad. If there were no old lady with a gun, Alex would not need to 'strut his stuff' so to speak.
Old lady was just trying to survive, and is a pretty creative way to have a "bad guy." Also, no way that Elvis lion should have been killed, coz he didn't kill anyone himself.
Dams don't actually cause rivers to dry up, though they will reduce flow for a time. A properly built damn will have little effect in the long run downstream, though it will drown a lot of things upstream and no doubt violated all kinds of laws in the area. Not that you can take things too seriously.
Her part in the first movie was short and she wasn't nearly as oboxious. She was, in a sense, defending herself in the first movie. In this one she was being aggressive, and kind of a cow. Didn't like the character at all this time around, and was rather hoping she might get eaten as she would be if he were a real lion, but alas the movie was not rated PG or R so the death she deserved was not forth coming, maybe in the special features of the DVD?
The whole if we can survive in NY we can survive anywhere was irritating, especially since the skill set needed to survive in both areas is very different, though from some perspectives, surviving in the jungles of Africa would be less dangerous than parts of NYC.
Yeah, but BubbleRaft, there were a lot of her parts that they could have just cut out and the story would still have made sense. It probably would have made more sense.
Frankly I though she was a terrible character and horrendously unfunny. I mean, who does she even appeal to? No adults in the theatre found her funny in the least bit, and the children certainly didn't, so she's pretty darn usless.
What's funny is that it seems like they did edit part of her out of the original screenplay. I was part of the test run earlier this year when half the movie hadn't even been animated, and I seem to remember a lot more of her than the final edit had.
Agreed though, I didn't like her at all, but the edit made it a little more tolerable.
I havnt seen the second one yet - but i really badly *beep* hate the old woman in the first. Worst part of the film or me - she's such a miserable twat. dosent need to get involved.
I loved when the Penguins threw her out the window and asked if she was dead, and she got up and they just floored it at her! EVERYONE was laughing so damn hard!

Same here dude. Lol those penguins are badass.
Beating the sh*t out of a typical Disaster Movie lover.
