I wonder if every cult is getting a movie deal? Or is it just the ones that annoy the piss out of everyone until someone gives into their pressure techniques?
Atleast we have the option of hearing about their cult through this media. I wonder, if the movie is a success, do you think we can convince the cultists to stop knocking on our doors?

this film was made by non JWs and not financced by JWs JWs were asked to participate for interviews but that was all this is an independent film made by person outside the JW faith

Not exactly true. Joel was raised as a witness. From your comment above, you are giving the impression that Joel had no ties whatsoever to the Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society. When you're raised in "the truth," you obviously have ties to "mother" from the past.
Joel's comment to the audience at the East Lansing Film Festival summed up this entire film. When asked what his mother thought of him making this film, he said she told him, "Just make sure you put us in a good light!" Does it get any plainer than that?
raised not baptized there are many people from many religious backgrounds that are raised but not dedicated members of their religion, but show a respect for their family's beliefs or go the other way and oppose them completely on the other hand, maybe he was showing respect and honor towards his mom's wishes if he was raised and never baptized, and he is a grown adult, he has not been associated with the JW faith for a number of years it seems his only contact for years was with the JWs was with his mom plus it seems to me his goal is to be an independent filmmaker and not a JW and create a unique documentary
>>it seems his only contact for years was with the JWs was with his mom
Not true. During the ELFF screening, a special two-row section was cordoned off for his family members that lived in MI. Only a few members of his family are not witnesses.

Which is such a shame for a man like Joel. He was given the knowledge of the truth but refuses to comply with Jehovah's requirements. It's too bad that he will not make it through armageddon with his other JW family members as the WTBTS literature clearly points out here:
*** You Can live Forever (1990) p.255 *** Do not conclude that there are different roads, or ways, that you can follow to gain life in God's new system. There is only one. There was just one ark that survived the Flood, not a number of boats. And there will be only one organization — God's visible organization — that will survive the fast-approaching "great tribulation." It is simply not true that all religions lead to the same goal... You must be part of Jehovah's organization, doing God's will, in order to receive his blessing of everlasting life.

Sounds QUITE reasonable to me. Like it says.....There was only one ark.
The reasons Witnesses report un-Christian behavior is to protect the purity of the (worldwide) congregation and to help the individual who made the error in judgement. Failure to do these things results in degradation of the religion...or, in other terms, being more like mainstream false Christianity, which is abyssmal.

Pretty much the same as Mennonites, Mormons, Scientologists, Moonies, flat earth Baptists, etc do.

We are not a cult, or a sect. Cults are where people are brainwashed and drink poison kool-aid and sects are offshoots of Established religions.
We try to learn about he Bible, and have a relationship with Jehovah God (and that is His name), and ecourage others to do the same.
I liked the movie, for the first time Jehovah Witnesses were shown in a positive light. I admit that some of teachings seem to have a Cliff note aspect, but for whoever is curious about us can go and ask a Witness.
