Did anyone think that Jacob's mom hated that Jacob was being abused??

I seemed to get the impression that Jacob's mom wanted to protect her son, but she was just too scared of her husband, so therefore she just went along with it to protect herself and try to help Jacob out as best she could when her husband was on one of his abusive rampages. She did, afterall, give Jacob the straw to breath through when his dad buried him in the backyard.
I really would not know what would be worse. Forgiving someone who abused you or forgiving somone who let it happen. Could Jacob have possibly forgiven one or both of his parents if they asked for it and showed Jacob they could stop being cruel to him??
Any opinions??

I didn't get the impression that she cared much at all. What kind of woman allows her son to be buried alive???!!
She never left her husband and took Jacob with her, did she?

I wondered what the heck they even kept Jacob for. If they hated him so much, why not allow him to be adopted? WHY fight to get him back?! At least if he was adopted he could be loved and have a normal life like he deserved.

Because Jacob is his father's punching ball, he's his scapegoat. He only wants to get Jacob back because he possesses him, considers Jacob to be his toy and wants to keep having him to keep enjoying to abuse him. That's just for cruelty.

The mother seems to love her son, but she's not very smart and not lovely. Indeed, she never left her cruel hasbund, she kept calling Jacob "sweetheart" when they visited him, to bait him and to make him feel guilty. And above all she promised the social workers that Jacob will never be harmed again with them. How could she promise that? She never did anything to stop her hasbund, she didn't leave him, report him to the police or others. How can she be so sure it will never happen? She has never been able to stop her hasbund so if he beats Jacob again, what will she do? Even if she's not cruel like her hasbund but i think she deserves one year in jail for never helping Jacob. I think Jacob would have eventually died if the cops didn't come.

I got the impression that she was afraid of her husband and was maybe trying to protect Jacob, but she's an adult. She knew better, she knew it wasn't Jacob's fault, it was her husband's and she just let it happen. If I were Jacob, I'd hate her way more than daddy dearest. She had the power to stop everything, but she allowed it to continue. Enablers. I hate them.
