I haven't seen this movie but why does a 16 year old need to be babysat? Does she have like mental issues or are her parents just overprotective of her...?

shareAs is explained in the film, the girl is a rebellious teen and her mother is ridiculously paranoid and determined to keep control over her while her parents are away for a night. The "babysitter" was originally her tutor; the mother makes quite an offer if she'll stay all night rather than just the brief tutoring time.
