Guys .. the movie was excellent .. It was Rajni all the way through .. it had all what we expect from a Rajni movie .. The story and theme were excellent .. but Shankar could have done a lot more to the screenplay in the second half. Spoiling all speculations .. Rajni plays a single role in two different name Shivaji and MGR !! yup .. thats true !!

I was disappointed too. i am a huge rajini fan as well as a shankar fan...
The movie is not bad, but with such a talented team, and so much money, they could have done a much better job.
I enjoyed the second half of the movie. Especially the last "mottai" rajini scenes. Picturisation of "Athiradi" song was mind blowing. Other songs were picturised poorly.
mmm... thats an interesting comment... wasn't that great? Sorry, haven't seen the movie yet myself (in fact, I was thinking of not going to see it after having read the comments on this page)... Do you think its worth it? I prefer to have English subtitles too... I think I'll wait till they release the DVD... Or have they already released the DVD? Not familiar with the system Bollywood follow...

Eventhough the movie is worth seeing once just for the last 15 mins alone, i wudn't rate this movie more than 6-7 out of 10.
These are the +ve points about the movie:
1. Athiradi song - is real Athiradi. Awesome.
2. Last 15 mins of Rajini - Mind blowing.
3. Vaaji song - great sets and picturisation.
4. Vivek Comedy
5. Sheriya looks sexy in songs.
6. Overall Rajini's acting, not that we haven't seen it before.
-Ve points:
1. Intro song poorly conceptualised and executed. Doesn't gel with the movie.
It will never be talked in the same breadth as say 'Autokaran' or 'Devuda'.
2. Not-effective villain.
3. Dragging at some scenes.
4. Very poor script and screenplay.
5. CPR related scenes towards the end defies logic.
Overall, the movie failed to live to huge expectations from a cinegoer point of view. But for a diehard fan of Rajini, it has everything.
In other words, its like watching sachin scoring a ultra speed 50 with top class strokes, when you expect him to score a match winning 100.

if you wanted logic...you should not be watching a rajini movie! go look at the afi top 100 list. there are a few brilliant movies there.

view it more as a guitly pleasure...its fun, and thats it. and this is definitely one of the most technically advanced movies to come out of india. and entertaining. period.
and definitely definitely much better that what we saw from rajini movies of late. at last theres one director who really could make use of rajini's star value...

It is foolish to expect anything from this movie. Waste of time buddy. Too much of everything. Logic and all that or story and all that or ..who wants all that ..but even fun ??? -- just dont expect anything. Poor Rajani - his age shows - with your father's age running around here. Let him take rest buddy. Poor man looks tired and spent.
shareI know its foolish to expect logic from movies. But that electric shock stuff is completes against sense. How can you say in one scene that you can bring life back of a patient suffered from electric shock only if the CPR was done within few minutes, but later in the same movie, you bring someone back live after more than 30 mins. Thats really is crap. Everybody knows A hero fighting 10s of people at tht same time in cinema is imaginery not real. But things like CPR has to be told clearly.
