I was a neighbor

I haven't had a chance to see the film yet, but one thing I do know, the Paskowitz family did not always live in a camping truck. For almost a year, they lived in a small rental house by a famous surfing beach on Oahu in Hawaii.

Julliette had a hard life, constantly "barefoot and pregnant" and Dorian could be autocratic, though few ever heard her complain about him or her life.

Doc worked in health clinics occasionally, sometimes making house calls on patients. Many people paid him in fruits and veggies from their yards. He once told me he appreciated that some could only afford giving him food in exchange for services, but noted that others took advantage to avoid paying when they could actually afford it. He needed to buy gas, pay rent and all, same as anyone.

He was passionate about the family eating only natural foods, way ahead of the times,

Thanks for posting this. I'm listening to Jonathan Paskowitz on Fresh Air, right now. This is a very interesting story.

Jonathan Paskowitz was on The Colbert Report; he handled himself well with Stephen.

"Dean! The Dean! The best weekend of her life, Dean!" *sigh*

You are right because for about a year they lived in Martin, SD where Dr. Paskowitz was a local MD at our clinic and the kids attended our school. I was in the same grade as the son, Israel and he was SO good-looking - I had my first big crush on him! Actually all of the kids were and the girls went crazy for them. They had their old camper parked in their driveway, though and they lived out of that as much as out of the house that was provided for them while he doctored there. I spent a lot of time playing at their house and with the kids that were around my age (at that time they had some in high school and some in diapers). Israel and I were 13 years old. I am really looking forward to seeing this film and seeing what they are all like now that we're all grown up!

Nice to read something nice about this family. It, the family, is misunderstood. The movie was great, though.
