How it should of ended...

SPOILER WARNING

Ok this is how I think the film should have ended.

After Gideon jumps out of the carcass and him and Carver fight Gideon rides off with both horses, the gun, and the water jug. Later he comes upon a water hole in which a criminal is extorting those who come across it. Gideon offers him the horse and gun and keeps going.

Then show Carver making his way to the water hole. Right after show Gideon coming across the barren desert landscape with nothing in sight(as was in the film). After he see's this barren wasteland he thinks about what will happen to Carver when he get's to the water hole, and that he will likely just be killed not being able to offer anything in trade. Gideon is sorry for his loss as it was somewhat his fault so he goes back to make sure he gets out of the desert alive.

Meanwhile Carver gets to the water hole, exhausted and beaten, the extortionist beats him up some more and ties him up etc...

Gideon then sneaks back to the water hole, kills the extortionist saving Carvers life. After saving his life, Carver and him fight it out both beat each other to a pulp, but eventually go their separate ways.

The End.

The ending imo was disappointing as both men see visions of a lady and what not and it just fell apart for me. This is what should of happened. We all know Gideon wasn't a bad man he just wanted to be left alone, but show he's a good man by showing him saving the man's life and perhaps he can get forgiveness out of it.

Thread necro...(sorry)

But I just wanted to clarify something for those who may have been confused, read your post and thought you had something going.

1.) Wes Studi at the waterhole was not a criminal. Did you pay attention to what he said? You have to give back what was taken, that which did not belong to you. He was the symbol of karma. He bartered balance. He was the equilibrium to set them on their way and ensure that Liam Neeson's character had an equal footing in the final stretch.

2.) Angelica Houston's character was the juxtaposition of choice following karma's law: with what you're given, how do you decide to proceed? Many times in life we're handed down or given situations we didn't necessarily choose, but then there are times when a balance is struck and we have one final choice in a matter that may or may not be bigger than ourselves. After Studi set a balance (giving Neeson's character a chance to "catch up") Houston's character was to offer them a way out...for better or for worse.

I thought the ending was just short of brilliant. It carried much more weight than I thought it would without sacrificing the integrity of either character (although I do believe it fell more in favor of Brosnan than Neeson).

Still, the final showdown was not about "might" or cunning, it was a showdown and a race to forgiveness. Seems as if that may have been lost in many audiences' intrigue into seeing a final play on the classic tale of revenge. Although, I'm glad they didn't go that route.

With Liam Neeson and Pierce Brosnan going to a strippers bar together, getting wasted and singing a song about the different between the words "of" and "have"!

I was expecting the "no bullet left, but other guy doesn't know it" to really be played out in a cooler way. Otherwise, I liked most of the choices in the movie.
