Rank Every Croc Movie!

I'm a huge fan of monster movies and below are all the croc movies i've seen or know about.

Please let me know if there are any out there I don't know and rank the ones you've seen.

This is just a listing. not my ranking.

1) Primeval. This is the one with the film crew going to Africa. They run into trouble with a local mafia group as well as a giant dinosaur, i mean Crocodile named Gustave.

2) Lake Placid. This is the more comedic theatrical release from the late 90s with Bill Pullman, Bridget Fonda and of course, the hysterical Betty White. They go after some big croc who's wreaking havoc in a lake.

3) Lake Placid 2. This is a Sci-Fi channel Original that was set up similarly to the first just with different actors, a more hungry crocodile, and special effects that make your jaw drop.

4) Crocodile. This one was about the 8 drunk college students who go sailing in a swampy area. They are wild and make mistakes which lead them into the path of a giant crocodile who chases and eats them one by one.

5) Crocodile 2 "Death Roll". This is the one where the plane crashes that's carrying a band of bad guys with guns and motives. They're stranded in a swamp being chased by a crocodile while one of the flight attendant's husband is eagerly trying to find her and the rest of the survivors.

6) Dark Water. This is similar to Rogue only a *smaller* group of tourists go out on a boat in the swamp and are attacked by a crocodile. The movie's most known for the fact that the cast spends most of the movie in a tree, but don't judge it on that alone.

7) Croc. This was a more light-hearted low budget croc movie which was about this guy who owned a croc zoo, so to speak. He struggles to keep the croc zoo open after some evil prospectors want to take his land. A bigger croc is on the loose and the main character gets blamed for the crocodile-caused deaths of some locals.

8. Blood Surf. This movie starts out letting you think it's a shark movie. But the sharks are no match for the GIANT rubber crocodile that chases people (as expected). The characters were filming dudes surfing with sharks until they encounter the croc and he chases them into more trouble with the natives and such. This movie may best be known for the two lead male characters always being wet and shirtless for most of the movie.

9. SuperGator. This was another SciFi channel original about experiments I believe that made a super gator. The gator crashed a big luau and there was also a volcano i think. A clip from this movie was screened on The Soup, so you know what that means.

10. DinoCroc. Another movie about scientific experiments or some bio accident gone wrong that creates a super beast. Unfortunately, I don't remember much more. But I believe this movie was based on a book-how exquisite! (i bet the book was better).

11. Rogue. Group of tourists venture through Australias norther territory where they are attacked by a rogue crocodile. They get stranded and fight to find a way out.

12. SuperCroc. This was about a giant crocodile that was discovered approaching los Angeles, so a bunch of guys in rented military costumes run around someones backyard in California firing guns at it for 50 minutes. Really this shouldn't be compared to any on this list. This "movie" was more of a project some college students made for a film class while high on weed.

13. Alligator. This was perhaps the first, and alligator/crocodile = tomato/tomauto. I haven't seen it but it's about an alligator that rises from the sewers and terrorizes city dwellers. Might sound interesting and original in theory but since its from the 80's my A.D.D. youthfulness would not be able to handle it - i'm sure.

14. Alligator 2 The mutation. The sequel to the above which is another I haven't seen but am aware of. It's probably not as good as Alligator 1 (hunch).

15. Crocodile Dundee. haha just kidding.

My ranking:
1. Crocodile 2 - personal favorite
2. Lake Placid
3. Primeval
4. Rogue
5. Black Water
6. Crocodile
7. Blood Surf
8. Croc
9. Supergator

haven't seen/don't remember
10. DinoCroc
11. Alligator
12. Alligator 2

13. Lake Placid 2. i haven't even seen the 3 above but there's no way they can be worse.
14. SuperCroc. if you think LP2 was the worst croc movie ever made you were way wrong. SuperCroc can only be watched while holding the fastforward button, or if you see this on tv it's impossible to watch unless you're bound to your chair with your eyelids pried open.

Very good list my friend, the only thing I see wrong is where you have number 6 as dark water where it should be black water. You corrected this lower down. But I agree with this list.

reply

I dunno, I have seen Primeval and Lake Placid and I would not rank them even close to Rogue. Its just superior film making, plus the Crocodile looked real in every way. The situation was completely believable and the *beep* scenery was amazing. Rogue is in a different league.

reply

Dude, You really ought to see a movie before saying something. I'm talking of course about "Alligator". Using Your list as a comparison (there were more of crocodile movies like "Dark Age", "Killer Crocodile 1 and 2" and a few more) I peronally would place "Alligator" on a second place right after "Rogue" and on the same level as Black Water. So what it was made in 1980? It still kicks ass of most of the movies listed here. I mean it. It's fun, it's not that stupid, the body count is impressive (but it doesn't get dull, as it usually does with other flicks). And it has something to it that one actually wants to see it again. The sequel is worse, but still better than most of the other movies listed here.
And "Rogue" is the best damn croc flick ever made. Sure, it could be longer, the body count could be larger, but hey, it's a solid effort, that I hope will bring us another croc flicks that will profit from good things in this movie, improving some things that need it. The SFX were great, best I've seen in a movie like that and can be compared to the big studio movies like Jurrasic Park, LotR (or even better, Gollum didn't look that much real), etc. And this croc just looks REAL. And it behaves like an animal, not like something writers came up after smoking a lot of pot. The dialog is fair. Acting is good. It's definately the best of the bunch. "Black water" is good. It's not an action movie, rather something like "Open water" with a crocodile. And they used live crocs most of the time. It's really worth seeing. The lake placid is ok. It's adequate. I don't like where it's trying to be funny. And characters are a bit annoying. Still it's not bad. And the rest of the movies?? Send them to hell :(!! It's movies like these, that stop more movies, far better ones like "Rogue" or "Black water" from being made, 'cose they are contributing to destroying the gender and serious studios don't want to make croc (or animalattack in general) movies 'cose they don't treat the gender seriously (after "Primeval", that had a big potential tha was wasted, who can blame them?)

1. Rogue (ausie flick)
2. Alligator 1 and Black water (another ausie flick)
3. Lake placid 1
4. Primeval (only becose of SFX - decent enough not to hate, the story is BS)
5. Alligator 2

And all the rest are BS, don't waste Your time on them (excluding "Dark Age", I haven't seen it, but I've seen a trailer and heard it was good, it's hard to get it though (oh, and it's also an ausie flick :], that tells You something :])

The fact that you have Alligator 2 on your list destroys your credibility. That movie features a floating log for an alligator, and snapping jaws made out of cardboard glued to a skateboard for land scenes. It was fantastically bad, but not in a "laugh at it, it is so bad" kind of way. Just tedious, lame, and reeking of ABC made-for-tv movie-of-the-week unwatchableness.

If you want to watch Dark Age the entire movie is on youtube now. I happen to love that movie I think its one of the best.

reply

How many 'croc' movies actually have a croc in them? I mean not CG and not a rubber ducky and also not just a cutaway to a stock clip of a wild croc like in a b/w Tarzan movie.

To the best of my knowledge only one movie has this vital ingredient.

reply

1. Black Water
2. Lake Placid
3. Rogue
4. Alligator
5. Primeval
6. Crocodile 2
7. Blood Surf
8. Crocodile

Of the ones I've seen, Black Water and Lake Placid are the only two that I actually really liked, the former for its really sharp suspense and terrific acting and the latter for its sense of fun and humor.

reply

This list is exactly mine. Finally someone who doesn't think Rogue's perfect.

reply

Primeval made me want to bash the side of my head in with a hammer. Not enough croc, too much preachy *beep* If I wanted to watch The Constant Gardner (excellent film, incidentally), I'd've watched that; but I wanted to watch a *beep* monster movie with the dude from Prison Break, not a half-assed generic "care about Africa's problems" movie that happens to have a crocodile in a couple of scenes.

Egh. Stupid monster movies are better off when they leave serious issues (like, say, civil war and poverty in Africa) to better films.

Haha good god. After reading some of the messages on here I have come to a conclusion that either you people have no idea WTF you're talking about, or you have the worst opinions imaginable.

Did you really think the croc in Rogue looked mostly real? It looked like utter shot. Do you really think it was brilliantly *beep* It was so cheaply done with terrible lighting and awful shots.

Now, with that said, the genre isn't exactly the best in the world, but only two croc movies come to mind when I think of the best. Lake Placid and Black Water.

Lake Placid is a pretty underrated, solid, "Snakes on a Plane"ish type of film, only way funnier and way better than SoaP. It had funny, sarcastic characters, great tension and suspense, and we actually care for the characters because they were each unique in their own way. They took time to develop them rather than EVERY b-rate croc movie you see that has terribly cliche writing and awful character build up....Rogue is one of them.

Second, Black Water. Now before you people get on me for saying how the croc in Rogue looked terrible...well the croc in Black Water looked terrible as well. The thing that sets Black Water apart from the rest of the crap is that once again, like in Lake Placid, we got to know the characters more through dialogue and conversations throughout the film. The film, although cheaply made, was incredibly suspenseful and we're on the edge the entire time.

The rest of the croc films are complete garbage. I wanted to give "Rogue" a chance after hearing some good things on the internet. Unfortuntely it was just like any other badly made giant croc *beep* yes before you ask, I liked Wolf Creek.

Oh, and Primeval was god awful terrible. You mean to tell me you enjoyed the cliche "one liner" black character with a completely laughable crocodile in one of the worst chase sequences I've EVER seen in film (the wheat field scene)? You people really enjoyed that crap?

Stunning.

Like I said, Lake Placid and Black Water are the only ones worth mentioning.

reply

I have only watched Alligator and Rogue.
Alligator was in a higher level, much more suspenseful and entertaining, sth like 7.5/10 , rogue, well, it was mediocre, despite the final act, that was good. beeing generous sth like 6/10.

That 'terrible' looking croc in Black Water is a real one.

Haha. How terrible does it look now, joker?

DoNt HaTe ThE PlAyA, HaTe ThE GaMe!!!!

reply

@f_f_f_101 you GD douche ... No whats truly "stunning" is that you seem to believe that YOU are the only one with a worthwhile opinion. Just by saying "yes I did Like Wolf Creek" you made yourself a fool with no right to accost others of their choices or what they think is good. Who gives a flying F@ck what YOU think makes a worthwhile film, particularly one of this genre that you so plainly dislike.
You think that Lake Placid is Snakes on a Plane"ish, wtf is that you goof? considering Lake Placid out dates that gong show shouldn't it be the other way around? well the answer is plainly no, did you actually see either one? or both for that matter? Your comparisons are juvenile at best. I think you were more likely just trolling and decided to rip into complete strangers b/c your daddy won't tuck you at night anymore.
You are a sad and worthless POS, stop hating on Rogue b/c its beyond your level, stop hating on others b/c you got beatdown in highschool, in general just f@cking stop, no one likes you or your BS opinions, take your shallow, low-brained unimaginative a$$ off into the bayou and don't come back until you either have a Croc epic like none seen b4 or just get eaten by one. One or the other man, its your choice

Just a reminder, although you remembered Crocodile (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0203425/) by Tobe Hooper, you forgot to include Eaten Alive (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0074455/) by the very same.
See you later alligator,
in a while crocodile

I haven't seen and or heard of:
Crocodile 1 & 2
Croc
Supergator
DinoCroc
Alligator 1 & 2
Blood Surf
SuperCroc

As for the others, these are my rankings:
1. Black Water - All time favorite croc movie, VERY underrated and under appreciated...
2. Rogue - Loved it, Dimension Extreme is awesome...
3. Primeval - There is a lot of hate for this film and I don't understand why. I found it very entertaining and suspenseful...
4. Lake Placid - Fun and entertaining, though very stupid and uninteresting at times...

5. Lake Placid 2 - The reason I have seperated this from the other four is because I do not think it is worthy of being put in there with them, nor do I think it is even worthy of being called a movie... ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE!

Listen to my story... this may be our last chance.

Finally, a poster with a bit of sense. I haven't seen Black Water, but am looking for it on DVD based on many posts here. Of the others, I own on DVD in order of worth :

1). Rogue - Great creature feature, very suspenseful, excellent effects.
2). Primeval - Great effects, good story, lots of suspense.
3). Lake Placid - Embarrassed to admit I have seen it on DVD 5 times. Very funny movie, excellent dialog, pretty good effects. Best horror/comedy movie out there in my humble opinion.
4). Alligator - Not bad for an early 80's horror movie. Very standard horror movie plot, but this movie is nearly 30 years old so maybe it wasn't so standard then. Good effects for a no-CGI film. The party-attack scene is a classic.

987). Lake Placid 2 - Horrible, cheap, lame effects, pathetic acting. Has one good scene where a topless sunbather is pulled into the lake, otherwise it wasn't even worth the $2.87 I paid for it out of the bargain bin.
988). Alligator 2 - Fortunately, this piece of cinematic dreck came bundled with Alligator, so technically I didn't really pay for it. I am convinced this was never theatrically released, but was a made-for-tv movie-of-the-week designed for release on a Saturday afternoon. There is no foul language, gore, nudity, or even any scary moments. The gator looks like a plastic log in the water, and made out of cardboard on land. Not even hilariously bad, no one can ever sit through this twice.

Haven't seen any of the others listed, but apart from Black Water, I don't think I will bother. They all seem to average about 2.8 on IMDB's rating system. If anyone loves lame horror movies, you can buy 10 of them in a single pack from Amazon.co.uk for less than 20 bucks, including shipping all the way from England. I was actually considering it until I read the reviews on some of the bundled titles............ but hey, some people here consider Crocodile 2 the best Croc movie ever made, and it is included in the 10-pack. If you are interested, just go to amazon.co.uk and search for "Creature Features".
