Why is the rating so low?

I have a feeling people were douche bags and gave it a 1 without even seeing it. I was most surprised by how much fun this film was and how much screen presence Emma Roberts had. It managed to follow that classic adventure movie forumla brilliantly without being archaic or uninspired. This movie is easily, at least in my opinion, a 7/10.

Well, I just sat through this movie today since it was on cable and the only other things that were on at the time were soap operas. I think I can solve this mystery. The low rating may have something to do with the horrendous acting. I'm not necessarily blaming placing all the blame actors since it could have just as easily have been the fault of the director or even the writers but something tells me that a little blame falls on all concerned. Granted it's not the worst acting I've ever seen but I often see better on prime time TV dramas and in a few instances on after school specials.

Another problem is that while the title of the movie is "Nancy Drew" there is little to separate it from most other kid's comedies. It's like making a movie titled "Sherlock Holmes" and just filming something that might as well be an episode of CSI.

Forgiving all of that, there is still the matter of the fact that this movie was made for teen girls. That's not a bad thing. I'm not saying that a movie for teen girls can't be good, it's just that anyone who is not a teen girl might not care much for it. Case in point; The breakdown of the voting reveals that the highest ratings for this film were from females under 18. Interestingly enough the second highest ratings came from females over 45 who happen to be women who are at the prime age to have grown up on the books while they were still at the height of their popularity.

No one is telling you that you can't enjoy the movie but you have to live with the fact that it just doesn't appeal to everyone.

I'm 66 years old and loved it. As for the acting, it's the same as "That Darn Cat", "Pollyanna" and many other teen flicks that were big hits. Emma Roberts is not Hayley Mills, but she was perfectly fine and reminiscent of a young Reese Witherspoon. I never heard of this movie and it was as watchable as a Columbo. Seriously. I was puzzled that it never became a tv series. I'd watch it.

i am pretty sure the low rating is due to your horrendous face.

god damn man, put a f!cking paper bag over it and spare us from your foul smelling breath at the same time.

I suspect it suffered from two problems:
1. Many in its 'target' audience simply wouldn't have been interested, and
2. those who already are into Nancy Drew may have considered it a poor effort at the books they love.
Since I was neither I thought it a pretty good effort and certainly worth a 6 or maybe a 7 at a push.
I do agree however that much of her sleuthing and problem solving came about not through effort or intellect but merely happenstance.

For me, the only good thing about this movie was Emma Roberts, as she's very easy on the eyes. The storyline was boring (the mystery especially so). Also, the movie's makers made it seem like everybody in the new school was a total /\-hole. While there's always a large minority of such jerks at almost every school in the world, they're hardly nearly 99% like the movie made it seem.

Exactly! I don't understand why this movie is so under rated. It may not exactly follow the books accurately, but I feel like they did that on purpose. It's a modern day version, and they probably didn't really care that it was different. They were just having fun making this movie! I think that the dialogue is very clever. And the mystery plot is very cool and interesting! Love this movie!
