who should play him in a movie?

I know they made movies but they should make a real "biopic" about this guy,i have know clue of who should play him, the only people that come to mind are tommy lee jones or bruce willis....who do you think?

reply

I still think Johhny Depp has him hands down...
Definately not Bruce Willis!

Johnny Depp was as perfect as anyone could ever be. Tommy Lee Jones? Bruce Willis? You need to lay off...or smoke more pot because your judgment is off!

reply

To me johnny looked like a "Disney" version of Hunter...lolol, if they wanted to make a real movie about his WHOLE life they should get some of the other guys.

reply

Actually I thought Depp was perfect for the Vegas film. When you see photos of Hunter when he was younger and around the time he wrote that book - he was a strikingly good looking man. Fast living takes its toll.

When I've discussed this before, I've always said J.K. Simmons. Of course, that would be an older Hunter, but he would be good.

Richard Jenkins

Miguel Ferrer.

NO Johnny Depp. I like Johnny, I love Hunter, and I love Fear and loathing in las vegas (book and movie), but Depp was wayyyy too cartoony. When you watch this documentary, does anyone feel like Depp's portrayal was at all accurate? Sure it worked for the movie, but I don't have any idea where he got those spastic, jerky movements from.

It's been agreed the whole world stinks, so no one's taking showers anymore.

reply

John Malkovich.

I didn't really like Depp in F&LILV - I agree with you that Murray did a much better job...in WTBR.

Given his age though, he could probably only do a good job at an older HST, but I think he could still pull it off...

reply

Murray really nailed him. Depp did a fantastic job, but if you compare Hunter on camera to Murray's performance, he had the voice and mannerisms down pat.

Actually I think Tommy Lee Jones would be a good choice to play the older Hunter Thompson.

Even though to most of us Depp can do no wrong, having read Fear and Loathing and seen this documentary and other interviews with Thompson, and even though you often find this when you compare an impression to the real thing, I'm afraid Depp doesn't convince 100%, he still seems like Johnny Depp trying to be Thompson. Thompson was actually a fairly handsome guy in his youth, but Depp is far too pretty (especially 10 years ago when he made that film) to play someone as debauched as Thompson.

the best point made so fair on this post... not that this is a contest but more of a cockfight of movie B.S. haha but since Depp was good pals from what I understand with hunter himself since they worked together for the fear and loathing in Las Vegas movie... hints why that movie is hands down the best adaption of a book in a visual sense due to both Depp's performance but more importantly Del Toro's side splitting over the top portrayal of Thompson rotten attorney hahaha one of god's one proto types... anyways but ya it depends on which book of Thompson you want to be made into a movie and what way the director wants to go with it and whose writing it and really the started of this topic should've worded the question better cause the real question who would play a good hunter... the question is more involved and complex if you want to get technical and what should've been asked is did you like the cartooning almost victim of a self made prison alter ego portrayal of Thompson in where the buffalo roam... only have seen half of it really lit so its hazy but that's what i recall from the first watch. i really enjoyed depps portrayal of hunter in fear and loathing obviously cause it was true and pure and *beep* man depps a good actor hate him or not personally i respect him as an actor and master of his craft with or without Tim Burton. however i think Robert Downey Jr should take a stab at hunter in the rum diaries or hells angels provided the right dude produced, directed, or wrote the flick cough cough Tarintino! i need to check out though the recent word on rum diary i hope its down tastefully

reply

Johnny Depp, of course!

reply

For me, Johnny Depp. I really love his performance in "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas"...

Prostitute: What the *beep* are you doing?
Johnny: I'm gonna kill a bunch of people.

Johnny Depp was was too short and I think made up his own character. The real Hunter is almost unintelligible. Also, he wasn't even that bald during Fear and Loathing.
