I Got Kicked Out of This Movie 15 Minutes In

I was orientation for my college (U of Michigan), and one of the nightly activities was to go see Hellboy II or Gonzo for the low price of the moths in your pocket; "How existential!" said my brain, which found itself pondering a night of strolling around town and then stopping in and view this flick, so walk is what I did. Needless to say, when my feet grazed the dusty concrete in front of the State Theater, I was in the clouds with excitement.

Upon entering, I climbed the mountain of stairs and into the old, classical theater smelling of an apple cider mill and your grandparents clothes from the 50's. After I settled in to the crimson chair, hugging me close, a man came and threw me out, demanding to see a blue ticket after he promptly declined my crisp, black and yellow student I.D. resembling a flattened bumble bee.

So long story short, I saw the beginning, loved it, and got kicked out. Now I have no way to see it since my town does not have a movie theater and the only city near me is showing The Dark Knight and Mama Mia, so basically two movies that one watches for two hours, scared out of their minds watching make up slathered freaks running around wild and causing all sorts of mischief.

Just thought I'd tell my story.

That was ridiculously boring and stupid. In "MY" opinion that is. It's also my opinion that your writing style sucks. No offense. The Dark Knight was actually pretty good too.

and you are an *beep* Don't take advantage of your anonymity in order to say such mean-spirited things to people.

reply

That was a stupid story, though. This isn't a writing class.

Doesn't sound that different, and that would at least save time to the reader, same results.

Since the forums normally include opinions about the movies, I was expecting that you had hated or loved the movie, and had a reaction in that regard, for which you were kicked out. You can't even give an opinion about the full movie since you didn't even watch it.

Getting kicked out of the movies for not paying a ticket, and assuming you would be allowed in for free because you're a student is ridiculous.

If it's a fiction, the character is pretty lame.

reply

It just ...went nowhere. You didnt say WHY you got kicked out which would be the only point of telling anyone the story. Otherwise just a pointless rant that belongs in your "gournal"

maybe you can take a writing course at school? Then you can quit your pretentious run on adjective ridden poppycock

Maybe you should take one yourself and learn some goddamn punctuation.

Or maybe you should just go *beep* kill yourself.

The phrase "goddamn" in your sentence should be written as "god damned". Or even "God damned". What about "goddam"? I agree with all the comments here, however; this isn't a writing class but rather a place to voice opinions on current film.

Or, exactly the way I utilized it.

Merriam-Webster is perfectly satisfied with the word s/he used.

So, *beep* you.

reply

Maybe you should all just shut up and go watch The Road Warrior.

P.S. The Dark Knight rules.

reply

"adjective ridden" IS adjective ridden.. good riddance!
btw I agree, boring story, bad style

reply

I dont think its right to tell people their stupid and whatnot but, I do think that you should of had the blue ticket obviously. The problem with some college students is that they think just because their in college they can do whatever they want, well welcome to the real world. But I did like this movie even though I had'nt read any Hunter Thomson before. I did see Fear and loathing in las Vegas which was crazy lol!

yawn.

reply

Jesus, you had to have written that monstrosity on purpose, to piss on the topic of discussion.

reply

You idiots, he's imitating Thompson's writing style.

I got a chuckle out of it, at least.

reply

Terribly.

reply

NO WAI

reply

Yes, you are indeed correct......Wong Kar-Wai ha no participation in this movie whatsoever

"Gran'pa was always tha best...."

reply

He was TRYING to immitate Thompson's style.

But he COULD try to be original and create his own style, since Thompson's will never be duplicated.

reply

Nothing wrong with the style of writing, but to the above poster, he was (hopefully) not imitating Hunter's style, it was nothing like Hunters style. At all.

We can't stop here, this is bat country!

reply

He didn't do the best job, but was close.

reply

...no, he wasn't.

Valiant effort pal. But... let me offer some advice. Don't try to imitate the good Doctor. He's who he is, and can't be fabricated. Blaze your own path. You're free to use HST for inspiration, but it comes off as hokey and amateurish when you try imitate a legend. And you're not the first to try. Many have failed in the pursuit of this goal. Besides, what if Thompson had chosen to totally copy his heroes Fitzgerald and Hemingway? There'd be no Dr. Gonzo! BE YOURSELF.

"He was trying to fool, Lloyd Braun!"

reply

I was waiting for the part where you got messed up on hallucinogenics. But it never came. And neither did I.

But really, I can imitate any legend and sound just like them, I promise.

Don't worry about people who insult you on the internet. They're like heckling clowns at the carnival just trying to get a rise out of you. They also probably gross the same pay and share the same type of loser lifestyle.
