Goldblum is trying to win a oscar

I mean we all know holocaust movies are the best way to win them is to be in a holocaust movies

reply

Nothing wrong with that. Although I don't really think he's doing this to win an Oscar. I guess he's interested in the subject of the film since he's jewish himself.

reply

Jeff Goldblum is also kind of odd that way. Eccentricities are what he specializes in.

The vicious circle of depression makes me depressed!

reply

Quite a few movies that didn't deal with the Holocaust have won Oscars.

Jeff probably decided to do this movie because it interested him. And besides, so what if he were trying to win an Oscar? I say he should go for it, since it's about dang time he got noticed for his dramatic roles rather than his comedic ones all the time.

reply

well anyway i hope he does win cuz its about time over all these years and all his movies he *beep* deserves one!

if you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball

Oscar = Be gay, be retarded, or be Jewish. If you pull off one of those, you are pretty much guaranteed for an Oscar.

reply

Umm, what a great way to put it.

Actually, playing a gay guy won't always get you the win.

Raul Julia played a gay person and he never won an Oscar, even though his acting is ABSOLUTELY LEGENDARY! These award shows are just biased towards A-list actors and/or people who have lots of hype.

I really do hope Jeff Goldblum wins the Oscar because he is a hell of an actor and he SURELY deserves the win! I don't want him to win for hype or for the reasons you stated ^^^, I want him to win it for the work he put into the movie.

Raul Julia for a Star on the WoF

reply

Oh, I know it isn't always the case, but people are often nominated for playing a guy person or a person who is mentally challenged (or with some other disease).

reply

It has been mentioned many times that there are quite a few movies who won - or were nominated for - the best picture oscar which deal either with the Holocaust, gays or the mentally challenged.
If the movie is good, I have no problem with it, even if the choice of the topic was with an oscar in mind.
I do have a problem with mediocre, implausible or plain bad movies dealing with the issues above that win oscars (Roberto Benigni anyone?).

About Jeff Goldblum: a criminally underrated actor. He needs better roles and hopefully wins an oscar one day. His work in Jurassic Parc alone is fantastic. Goldblum has the ability to make written dialog sound as if he is improvising (I am quoting Spielberg's Jurassic Park DVD director's comment here - and I agree 100%).

Gay, Retarded, or Jewish?

So how do you explain such Oscar winners as Tom Hanks, Michael Douglas, Jeremy Irons, Al Pacino, Robert de Niro, George C. Scott, Russell Crowe, Marlon Brando...etc. The characters they played don't fit under anything you put down.

Well right off the top of my head I can think of two movies Tom Hanks has played either or. A gay man with AIDs in Philadelphia, and a slow (retarded) manchild in Forrest Gump.

psycho-killers is also a golden road to the gold.

schrews, dyspeptics, put-upon harridans, plucky non-composmentos, the righteously heppish, the dis-affected.

the men are hot, the women not.

whats up with that?

Jews do a pretty good job at winning oscars without making movies about jews (spielberg, daniel day lewis etc)

reply

Daniel Day-Lewis isn't Jewish!

... Is he?

reply

Pretty stupid comment. First of all this had no hope of Oscar consideration. Winning Oscars requires political manoeuvring and connections.

Second, almost no movies about the Holocaust have ever been even nominated for Oscars, let alone won them. Statistically, there's probably about 1000:1 against.
