8th Plague entertains over Hostel.

Fortunately, the negative postings for 8th plague are far from being accurate.

Everything about this film blows away a film like "Hostel." The cast, character motivations, cinematography and special fx are top notch. Even the gaffer gets props on this one! The images are freakin' vivid!

You will notice selective steadi-cam shots. The special fx. I'm even guessing the storyboards for this film were phenomenal. It is that good.

Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather buy this flick and be entertained for two hours than hunched behind a monitor giving negative feed on a very promising and respectful film to the genre.

yeah thats probably true, this movie was pretty good for a Video release, altho its kinda predictable.

THANK YOU!!! Just what I thought...

Ya, seriously, the FX are killer and the main character/ supporting acting is pretty damn believable. Mybe not the BEST, but give the actors a break, they're working with a script that doesn't give them much to work with. Some people are just $%&#% critics, right?

I thought the movie was pretty good. People need to stop, A. watching this type of horror movie when they don't like this type of horror movie and B. stop expecting top notch movies when alot of money isn't spent on movies like this.

I thought everyone did a pretty good job with the script they had to work with.

Liked that it wasn't the same old thing the dark comes and so does the bad stuff. Was great that daylight wasn't the time to relax.

Well worth the price of the rental. People it's entertainment spend a couple of bux and enjoy.

There are plenty of examples of low-budget horror films rising above their means to become genuine classics.

This ain't one.

Remember Halloween, The Blair Witch Project, or The Exorcist? Those flicks weren't exactly rolling with a Spielbergian budget yet they each managed to become a massive success. I'm guessing that one of the reasons for this might be that the writers and/or directors took the trouble to progress the plot and expand upon their characters. Just a shot in the dark on that one.

Fright is evoked when the audience actually cares about the folks on screen and don't want anything bad to happen to the nice/funny/brave people up there. This is accomplished with "character development"; a term I doubt the writer(s) of this flick have great familiarity with. There's no information given to us beyond the most superficial facts summed up in two sentences or less. Things like: "I have to find my sister because she's the only family I have left since our parents died and we had a fight the last time I saw her so I'm feeling guilt!" or "He's an ex-guard at the prison we're going to." You get the idea.

Listen, I'm not trashing the movie because I don't want anyone to see it. No, I just want everybody to know exactly what they're getting into since a couple of the posts here keep touting the 'great story'. Great? It's not even mediocre. It's awkward, poorly paced, predictable, and rife with clichés.

If you see this movie, please do not expect plot. Expect buckets of blood, tons of gore, decent acting (from the two leads, at least) and a handful of intense scenes. It's enough for a fun, if forgettable, ride.

Finally, a helpful post. Thanks.

I agree with you, Tsudiia. After reading good coments about this movie, i m finally believing what some people say about relatives of the filmmakers writing reviews... my god!!! "character motivations blow you away"??????? C'mon!!!!!! Be serious!!!
Really a bad movie... And i love low-budget horror movies.

reply

Huh... ive seen hundreds of horror movies and this one is probably one of the worst... and i really mean it... U guys think that acting is allright? theni guess we seen 2 different movies cuz in the 8th plague that i saw the acting is actually the most scary thing about this film... The concept is quite naive but i can imagine much much better movie based on this story... For me this movie is a disaster :)

The Exorcist? The Exorcist had a huge budget for a horror film of it's time. Better examples would have been Night of the Living Dead(original), Texas Chainsaw Massacre(original)and Evil Dead which were all made outside of Hollywood, and all were first feature films for the makers. Even though I enjoyed The Exorcist I'm far more impressed with the type of films made by and starring amatuers, than a film like The Exorcist made by Hollywood from an established director and all-star cast.

maybe it was but why does that make this a good or bad movie?

Hi..
I thought this movie was pretty good for a B low budget movie,
Yes, it was a bit cliched, but in a good way and it manages to hold your attention far enough, this was really a good and thrilling horror movie. !
I look at big budget hollywood horror movies today, and all i see is crap and silly remakes. We have got the grudge 2 which was terrible, Pulse which is even worse, Hostel which was pretty lame and and the over hyped Land of the dead, all big budget movies that really sucked as horror movies, the only movie worth watching is the Descent !
The 8th plague on the other hand was a nice scary thrilling movie, it was shot in way that reminded me of the old 80s cool scary movies, and it beats alot of the big budget movies in many ways, if there are any other good B horror low budget movies, then please point them for me !!!!
One poster here mentioned movies like the excorcist, Halloween and Blair witch project as examples of good low budget movies ??? What ??? the first two weren't low budget ! they had a good budget for thier time and were released nation wide, unlike the 8th plague !!!!!
The blair witch project was a low budget movie, it was ok, but in my opinion, again over hyped and over rated !!!!

The fact that this is the one and only post from the original poster leads me to believe that they were most likely involved with the film or related/friends with the makers of the film. My guess is they are probably the gaffer(Who else would give props to the gaffer?)

Have you ever heard that maybe... just maybe the original poater works in the business and spots in other films what it took to make the film? I guess you didn't think about that. An expert eye is always good for reviews. Don't knock it till you have done the job... Oh! Maybe that is what your problem is... You don't know enough to do the job. Neither do I, that is why I stick to what I know BUT I am always interested in learning something new... Maybe you should be just as interested instead of bashing plain old fashioned good entertainment... Oh and for your information... I am a fan!

Freedom is not cheap... Quit bashing our troops and leaders!

And I'm still sticking to my original opinion(Which I am entitled to)
But thanks for the lecture.

"Oh and for your information... I am a fan!"

Odd, I don't recall asking.

I won't go as far as to say it's better than Hostel, but I enjoyed the movie. I gave it a 6.
