Is this a remake?

I seem to remember from my childhood a horror movie/show/miniseries (something, though I remember there being more than one) about a carnivorous plant that takes over the home of a family after the father scientist experiments around though as I remember in that movie he also is the one to fix the problem. The main thing I remember is that it was filmed in an odd way where everything is very bright and surrealistic in nature. It might have been british or something.
