I didn't laugh once... I thought the whole thing was incredibly sad

It's obvious that you didn't see more than ten minutes of this movie.

Uh, why is it obvious? I saw the whole movie, twice, and think dark comedy is the perfect genre classification for it. What else would it be?

Although seeing the date of your post (April Fools Day), maybe it was a badly communicated joke, and i'm misinterpreting it?

I'm sorry but the movie wasn't funny at all. It was meant to be bleak and depressing. I've read that the movie was marketed as a comedy, which I suppose was a necessary marketing ploy to garner as much exposure for this gem of a movie as possible, but it's not a comedy. Anyone who thinks so either didn't get the movie or is a little sick.

I only do it with superheroes.

I know this is a very old post but I have just seen this movie on Netflix and wanted to correct your misperception so some other new viewer will not get the wrong idea. If you have ever known anyone who suffers from depression and have had adverse reactions from anti-depressants you would not think it was funny. It is very sad and difficult to deal with - both the depression and the adverse reactions. This movie captures what sometimes does happen in real life with psychotropic drugs. You should not poke fun at people with mental disorders or think this movie is funny at all, although it does have some parts that may seem to be amusing to immature brains.

Psychotropic drugs are nothing to play with which is why they should be used only by those seeing a good psychiatrist who understands the brain chemistry and will immediately remedy the prescription if something is happening to a person such as in this movie. Unfortunately, there are "doctors" who don't do an adequate job of policing their patients' reactions and experimental drug testing that goes on without proper follow-up, and some people who really need help are damaged before it is noticed in time. I hope you and yours never need these psychotropic drugs or play around with them thinking it is recreational.

I think the correct classification for this movie is "Hilarious, yet excruciatingly terrifying." I did laugh at certain parts of the movie, but mostly it scared the hell out of me way more than any horror has.

Very sad movie. I liked it. Perhaps people who never had been depressed and lonely think this movie is funny...

I think the movie is a dark comedy. A lot of people associate comedy with feeling good and laughing out loud, but with dark comedies it may not be something you laugh out loud with, but you more chuckle with a few scenes.

The part where he is trying to show his friends his superpowers, in his mind he's totally doing it while they're just staring at him with disbelief: that scene made me chuckle a bit and I thought "he is being so silly right now. I feel bad for what the character is going through, but Michael Rapaport's behavior and the idea of this scene is comical."

Dark comedies are not always meant to be hysterical. Sometimes... a lot of times, they tend to be dark, but meaningful stories so they lighten it with comic relief to get the viewer through it without entirely draining enjoyment from their experience. For some people it's enough to get them through, for others it may not be.

The movie 'Hesher' is a good example of this type of dark comedy: Dark story, useful moral and a few funny scenes.
