Shannon, you suck

Wow. The character of Shannon is one of the most unlikable bitches I've ever seen in a movie. What a way to ruin an otherwise feel good Christmas movie. I could not stand her.

I agree. She scowls through most of the movie, barely acknowledges her neighbor and her invitation, talks back to her employer (insulting him about his taxes,) tries to boss her CLIENT around, pushes the camera lady (injuring her,) and even snaps at her kid for no good reason. This is all on top of how she treats Howard Hessaman's (sp) character when she learns his secret, without hearing him out at first.

I completely agree. Her character was a complete and total bitch. To say she was unlikeable in this Christmas movie is being kind. I absolutely hated her character. Watched her in "A Golden Christmas" and she was a bitch in that as well. I understand that is the way the character is written but her horrible attitude and unpleasant demeanor took it to the extreme whereas other actresses could have pulled it off without being so damn unlikable (and again, that's being kind).

This is an old post, I know. But I just saw the movie for the first time last night and wanted to comment on it, haha.

I think my problem with the characterization is they gave her no where to go or not enough time for a change of heart. In these kind of movies, she is the Scrooge or the Grinch. It's understandable to me that she would be frustrated and annoyed with her situation. A heart broken single mom trying to get thru Christmas without nosey neighbors and an ungrateful 5 year old. And now she is forced to drive this 'crazy man' around on Christmas Eve. I completely get it. But she showed no real change after seeing Fred's generosity. We see no different perspective on life develop and it only got worse when the truth about who Fred was came out. I hate that by this point, there was no time for her to figure it out or investigate. They even killed the mom off conveniently so there isn't even a scene between the two to set the record straight that would usually be in these kind of movies.

Again, I didn't hate the idea of her starting out as a cold-hearted bitch but the way they attempted to turn her around was not executed well at all and leaves the story wanting.
