Just a few things that confused me.

So, I got the plot of the story and the ending fine. There were just a couple of things that I couldn't get my head around, and looking through the topics on the threads I couldn't find the answers that I needed.

So, when the Sherrif (I think that's who he was, the one who shot himself after killing his daughter) went to shoot the "zombie" (I use inverted commas for lack of a better word) the bullet jut went through him, and some sort of blue dust like substance came from his body, and he glowed a little. What was all that about? It made me think that bullets couldn't kill them, but then after that they were all running around shooting them. Have I missed something here?

And finally it was Tom at the end. After he gave himself up and all the children were standing looking at his ex-wife, there was a shot of the woods and I thought I saw Tom standing alone in the forest. Did I? And if so why was this? If he'd died why would he be standing there alone? I didn't quite understand that.
