Directors Cut

I fear the DVD, and not in a good way. I saw the Director's cut through a friend of a friend, and it doesn't sound a whole hell of a lot like what DVD watchers are seeing and posting about. First of all, the Directors Cut kicks ass, is totally scary in a please excuse me while I cry and wet myself kind of way, and is gorgeously shot, scored, and edited. Second, it is character driven and makes all kinds of sense. It does make you think and work a few things out, but sort of in a Memento or Fight Club way, like maybe the Director thinks you have half a brain and might enjoy solving a riddle or figuring out the puzzle. I took it as a compliment that someone in Hollywood thought I could put two and two together. I felt there was more than enough in the way of clues to figure out the ending, or what the ending meant to me.

Movies are so *beep* dumb lately. Seeing a movie that grabs your brain is pleasurable. But then I am probably not Clive Barker's target audience. I have a few degrees and I have completed puberty and I am not currently high. I have nothing against stupid movies for teenagers, I just enjoy a movie for adults every once in a while. But then, I bet I would have liked this movie even more when I was a pissed off 16 year old.

Yeah, that would be great!
I didn't care much for the DVD version, so if anyone knows where to get the Director's Cut, please let us know!

reply

How would you even get the Director's Cut?

reply

Anyone?

reply

I've seen it too. Like you I'm not the target audience. In fact, it isn't something I'd normally see at all. But, I saw it and it was less splat-fest and more suspenseful.

Where did you see it?
Tell us Sonny!! :D

reply

Can't tell you unfortunately. Really. I can tell you all kinds of things about it, but not the "where". That was the director and the exhbitor's request

As I understand it there are DVD copies floating around, and you could see what you can find out on spreadingtheplague.com

Wouldn't be surprised to find something on the torrents either.

What I really don't understand is why people go around pirating movies that you can buy...

If they won't sell us the damn director's cut, that's the sort of thing that SHOULD get pirated. 'Cmon, let us buy it already.

Also - the site doesn't say squat. If you've REALLY seen it, how about telling us what really happens in the story since we probably wont ever get a chance to see it.

reply

Yeah . . . you could mention a few things that were different, at least. Was the score different? I really didn't care for the music in the "Producer's Cut".

reply

I can help you to understand that.
First of all, somebody needs to get the movie and/or music,
then, that person will be able to share the file if wants.
Now, looks like nobody is able to get that version,
in consequence, there's no way to share it on internet.

Now, some people loves to share things they like and it's impossible to get
all the necessary money to buy every Blu-Ray, DVD and CD available in stores
(in my case, I will need around $25,000, with no exaggeration,
to buy all the things I will love to watch and hear right now),
so those are two more reasons why they share movies and music.

If you have a relative or a friend who wants to watch certain movie
you won't say: "Go to buy it", if you already got the Blu-ray/DVD,
you'll probably borrow your disc. That's how file-sharing works,
if somebody bought it and wants to share, that person will do it,
if not, he probably will do nothing or will say;
"Hey, watch this great film, try to buy it".

I would like to watch this Writers & Director's Cut,
I liked the version I watched, that I suppose is that made by Producers.
For what I read, they decided to make a marketable version, that was a shame.

reply

The score was written specifically for the producer's cut of the film and is not used in the Writer & Director's Cut. A temp track (appropriate music taken from other sources) currently is the music on that version. Since the Writers & Director's cut is 100% a different cut than the producer's cut, their music score wouldn't fit the cues even if, God forbid, the director wanted to use it.

I definitely want to see the director's cut. I've only seen the producer's cut and I found the whole film pretty intriguing. It took two watches of the ending for the story to click but I like films like that. I'm with the many people here who like films which don't spell out the meaning for them.

I'm posting this in the hope that the powers that be will see that lots of people would like to see the director's cut and so it should be released. I know it's unlikely but, in the spirit of this film, there's always hope.

Come. It is time to keep your appointment with the Wicker Man...

Im dying to see this so-called great directors cut because I cant beleive how terrible this film was. The directors cut must not contain one scene from the crappy cable version I saw...lol

I just saw this last night (9/10 here....friggin people don't have a clue as to what real horror is). Are any of the deleted scenes on the DVD in this directors cut? Mainly: The scene where the ex husb and his ex wifes bro meet up, the scene where they explain WHY the daily spasms are happening, and...there was one mor I forget. EDIT: OH...the girl smothering her sister after discovering mom. Those three.

Brilliant movie. Using a lot of familiar themes, but VERY well paced and is very well told, with 'just' the right amount of tweaks to said 'familiar themes'. Solid acting all around.

John Carpenter needs to watch this and learn how to make films again. Romero redeemed himself With Diary of the Dead, so he has apparently figured it out again.

Great , GREAT film.
