The Romantic angle seems made-up

I lived in Haiti off and on from 1987 till 1992 and never saw European or Black American or even high class Mulatto girls from Petionville hanging out with black thugs or Macoutes or slum warlords etc ...never ...no way.

Now either times have changed bigtime or they just threw this in there for the usual interracial/intercultural relationship effect though this really transcends that even as simply bad judgment.

An AID worker sleeping with local criminals would be grounds for her to be sent home.

alot of the film, to me, seemed set up.
nothing about it seemed documentary. i cant understand why these thugs would allow a documentary to be made about them. and if the environment was a rough as they described, then why would any camera man agree to such a project???
the romantic angle seems more than thrown in there, bu completely scripted...
im really confused as to the actuality of this film as a true documentary.

The same reason why anyone wants to do a documentary. They wanted to get their story out there and show people what they deal with on a everyday basis. And about the rough enviorment and camera man, this is nothing new. Reporters/Camera men have been doing this type of work since War and Cameras have been around. This is what they like to do. They thrive on being able to capture rare events like this on video. Seriously, it's not that hard to understand. Get out from your little box and you'll see the world is not all flowers and candy.

Just because you've been to Haiti doesn't mean you know what life there is about. Maybe you were too caught up in your own work there to notice but I know for a fact that this happens more often than the Human Rights authority would care to admit.

Some parts of the aid worker love angle seemed strange. Like when she went and told Billy that she was boning his brother. The way she said it and the fact she did it front of the camera was real strange to me.
