Morbid Angel used to be crazy about the whole Mythos thing too. "Altars of Madness" and "Abominations of Desolation" are two albums strongly influenced by Lovecraftian themes. Oh and they are quite possibly two of the most important works in extreme metal.

I have a question for you guys though. "The Haunted Palace", a vincent Price movie, is based upon a Lovecraft story, which one actually? Yes it was marketed as based on a Poe story, but it's obviously Lovecraft.

reply

"The Case of Charles Dexter Ward". Charles Beaumont did the screenplay - since there didn't appear to be much narractive substance to Poe's excellent poem, he turned to Lovecraft. Richard Matheson frequently fleshed-out Poe's work with original material. No doubt Beaumont could have done the same, but it was nice that he tried to get HPL to a larger audience, and HPL was a *huge* Poe fan...

reply

Name the Michael Shea WFA-winning sequel to one of Lovecraft's famousest stories.

reply

Good one. Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, possibly, maybe, "The Colour Out of Time"?

reply

The poem Price voices at the end is indeed "The Haunted Palace" by Poe, but the story the movie is based upon is "The Case of Charles Dexter Ward" by Lovecraft. Not the worst adaptation of that one either. The worst would have to be the one presented on Fantasy Island starring Tina Louise. No kidding.

reply

What? Fantasy Island? Huh? Tina Louise?

Name the pulp writer who, in addition to coming up with the dropping-of-many-balloons at poltiical conventions, also added De vermiis Mysteriis and Culte des Goules to the library at Miskatonic U.

reply

Either Robert Bloch or Strom Thurmond.

reply

Little known secret: they're the same person.

Ummm.... name the Ray Bradbury story wherein someone asks for a Lovecraft book, and the librarian responds, "Is that a sex manual?"

reply

"Pillar of Fire."

reply

Pulp writer, pulp villian, why split hairs?

reply

What Playstation (1) video game had Shoggoths?

Yog Sothoth and the other appears to be a trick question as "the thing that should not be" is a song by Metallica and not a Lovecraft creature. Hastur is He who should not be named
