I'm really confused....

I was thinking about renting this movie with my online Blockbuster account, because I heard that it was pretty much the only faithful Lovecraft adaptation out there.

So I went onto Blockbuster.com and watched the trailer. What I got was a trailer for a movie in color that appears to take place around 2006. I thought this movie was in black and white and took place in the 1920s? Furthermore, the trailer didn't make it appear to be a faithful adaptation of Call of Cthulhu. What's going on here?

I just finished watching it and really enjoyed it. I can see anyone who is not an HPL fan not liking this film.

Anyways the one I watched was black and white and yes takes place in the 20's. The one you saw must be some other movie completely.

Go to blockbuster.com, do a search for this movie, and watch the trailer. It's in color and it makes it look like a typical Hollywood horror movie that takes place in the early 21st century. I'm almost positive the trailer ends with a title screen of "The Call of Cthulhu." I didn't click on the wrong movie, because there's only one movie in Blockbuster's database with this title, and it has the same movie poster in its profile.

I can tell you what's happening.

Blockbuster arsed it up, and put up the trailer for the upcoming movie called 'Cthulhu', with Tori Spelling among other people, instead of the right one.

Here it is:

As far as the listing goes, it looks correct, so I think you can safely rent it and expect to see the one made by the Lovecraft Society. It's just Blockbuster who got their titles mixed up.

Here's the trailer for the one you really want:
