I agree with you, Lilly. And I think there were some missed opportunities in Bad Reputation. I’d have liked to see more examination of the class prejudices and snobbery coming from the vacuous privileged kids and the intelligent Michelle, who was part of a program to put gifted underprivileged students into an academic environment that could help them to help, you know, THE WORLD?! The butthole who raped her called her “a charity case”! He also admitted he was too stupid to understand her jokes. Given the locus of the narrative, Michelle’s death, and Wendy’s salvation, was the best possible resolution. She was going to jail till she was dead, otherwise. I’d have preferred that she filed rape charges, but it was a different era. Her “mother” was a complete asshole. The poor young woman had 2 1/2 strikes against her in life. I despised his narcissistic tormentors. I rooted for her. This was Tragedy in the Greek sense.
