what if he asked?

does anyone think that if he just asked the blond chick she would have still thought it was no big deal and given it to him? considering her *beep* husband i think not.

i loved the 9/11 analogy. the fact that we do equate the value of a life by how much they are financially worth is scary.

...ask what?

Ask her for the money, at least, that is what I gather based on the OP's question.

To answer: I don't believe she would have given anything had she not lost her husband, and had the father not come to the park lady's aid in what was seemingly his selflessness in helping out a relatively unknown person by getting her to the hospital. She believed that the father, Mladen, was granting her a random act of kindness, and she was returning the favor. She mentioned specifically when she paid him a visit to tell him that she wanted to pay for the operation that she knew what it was like to lose a loved one and that the amount of money he needed would barely put a dent in her finances.

At any rate, I don't think she would have given the little boy a moment's notice had her husband not been killed. If you think about it, the dying boy mentioned to his dad that he didn't want to go to school anymore because all the kids knew about the newspaper ads appealing for donations for his operation in Germany. The rich park lady, if she hadn't already found out about the boy from reading the paper, then her daughter would have mentioned something since they attended the same school. After all that, she could have transferred the money well before her husband was killed. She didn't.

At least, that is my observation.

Just saw this film in the last hour and justforshtsngiggles you bring up a great point about the woman and the money. Because of his first act killing her husband caused her problem he helped with this brought his problem to her. It sort of showed how various actions have a cause and effect in many ways good and bad. Such a great film of many layers I am still thinking about. Yet also not a overly complicated film in the end. Just a focus on what we as people when desperate might resort to.

I just watched this, what a great film. I agree she would likely not had offered the money had it not been for the tragedy and the kind of snowballing events that transpired. I loved the use of the 'ordinary person'
that gets involved in something bad he normally wouldn't; I could relate to him and it made that much more poignant. That theme Hitchcock used in many films.

It's too cerebral! We're trying to make a movie here; not a film!
