Rylee has been burned one too many times by the cheating husbands she has met and plans an elaborate payback scheme for revenge. Her scheme works really well until she tricks the wrong guy…and falls head over heels in love.

"Having been burned one too many times by cheating husbands who claim to be single, Rylee plans an elaborate payback scheme. She meets a married man, gets him drunk, makes him think he's had a successful one-night stand, and then shows up with a baby in tow twelve months later, asking for blackmail money. This works well until she meets Max. Max really is single and wants to keep 'their' baby. Now Rylee has a problem, and the game of cat-and-mouse begins."

That's from the sales sheet that the distributor sent me. It makes me wonder if the person who wrote the synopsis really understands the phrase "cat and mouse." After all, the mouse is not simply embarrassed or ashamed to be caught. It is killed and eaten.

On the other hand, maybe this movie is darker than I thought...

I didn't write the synposis, but was curious about this, so looked it up in www.m-w.com:

Main Entry: cat and mouse
Function: noun
: behavior like that of a cat with a mouse: as a : the act of toying with or tormenting something before destroying it b : a contrived action involving constant pursuit, near captures, and repeated escapes <played a game of cat and mouse with the police>; broadly : an evasive action

In another context--a nickname for an early 1900s British Act, it related to how a cat will play with its captured mouse. (Ref: Wikipedia)

So according to these references, and many popular uses, it can indeed be about m-w's "b" listing--referrring to the interplay of repeated chase/escape. I believe the phrase also alludes to how it's not always the CAT who is in control...and in this film, ultimately, the chase goes both ways. (Notes on the final capture would be a spoiler...but it's anything but dark!)

The main character is a lady named Rylee (who is NOT played by Lacey Chabert, despite what the promo poster shows.) She gets dumped after a one year relationship with a cheating husband. I don't know where anyone got the idea that she was duped multiple times, because they only showed one. she also works at a day care center. The cheating husband comes in with his pregnant wife to check out the day care center, sees Rylee with a baby and assumes it is his. He gives her 100K hush money. Rylee seems her ticket to easy street and starts hunting married men at conventions. (I'm not giving sleezy cheaters a pass, btw., but they are the prey here.) She lures them to their rooms, gets them drunk, messes up the clothes and bed a little, then takes their business cards. One year later she shows up at the guys work with A BABY THAT SHE HAS ILLEGALLY TAKEN OUT OF THE DAY CARE and black mails the cheater. For some reason, no one ever questions this and she has made tons of money, judging by her house and lifestyle.

Fast forward to the present..ok...one year ago...and she meets a guy, who is holding his cheating friend's wedding ring. Rylee sees it, assumes he's married, does her ting and now fast forward to the present. She shows up at his office with a BABY THAT SHE HAS ILLEGALLY TAKEN OUT OF THE DAY CARE. Dude is actually interested in the kid and a little confused. Rylee gets fired from her job so for the next meeting with the guy, she gets a job babysiting some stranger's kids on the same day. (Good mothering, there, letting a complete stranger mind your kids.) Rylee shows up to the second meeting with a baby that looks nothing like the first one. except...that they are small and baby looking.

The guy turns out to not be a total idiot and realizes it is a different kid and he is being scammed. He decides to get even by hiring an actress to play his wife and I am just so bored with explaining this now.

Going to end with they totally ended up together and totally deserved each other. Tools.
