tell us about it

Some people have already voted which I'm guessing are people who saw a test screening or were involved with making it. But how is this? The trailer looks cool - extremely americanised horror coming from good old NZ. Any reports?

I am not one of those that have voted yet because I would be somewhat biased. It is a great film and is about to be released in NZ on February 16th in Wellington. Cool to see it's got 9 out of 10 from 5 votes! I guess the people have seen it at one of the film festivals it has screened at over the last few months. I am one of the actors in it. Filmed in NZ with almost no budget and no crew except for the actors and director of course. I'd be really interested to hear what those five people have to say about it...

I caught the premiere of this in Wellington last week. Hadn't heard a thing about it until someone handed me a flier about it about an hour before the screening... I really enjoyed it. It's not like anything else that's out there really. And it really is amazing the level of work achieved through such a small budget. Having said that though, some of the stunts were a bit rough.

But for a low budget kiwi film it was very well done! Though, because it is in places quite obviously a very low budget film, I don't know if I'd recommend it to people to see at the theatre.

I'm assuming the reason for a lack of awareness is due to the lack of funds? A shame, I'm sure if it had more publicity there'd have been more than the 40 people that were there for the premiere...

Saw it on DVD this week. I just wrote a fairly glowing review and posted it on this site. There was only one other review from a guy who hated it, so I felt I had to speak up for those who didn't.

Which part did you play, Bubbamac?

Definitely not Americanized. People will be expecting it to be, which generally causes problems. A lot of people won't get it, but I think it's an excellent film.

Yeah that dude REALLY hated it. I guess you can't please everyone.
I played Mark. Thanks for the great review. I hope more people read yours! Sounds like you got it.

Not a problem. :)

So what are you doing these days? Are you still working in film? I recognised a couple of your co-stars from Shortland Street & commercials, etc, though I imagine Hidden pre-dates all that.

Yep still working in the industry, only just, acting, teaching, writing and getting into directing. I married one of my class mates - Kerry Warkia who plays Jacqui - and we wrote a doco that screened a few months ago on tv one about cultural identity. We have 2 kids now and are starting up a production company but really heartening to see films like hidden in video stores and that people are actually renting them. There's a lot of talented film-makers and performers around so hopefully there's a lot more where that came from.
