The Fountainhead

He said The Fountainhead is the best American movie??? Am I missing something? Was he joking? Do I have to completely reconfigure my ideas about Zizek and Rand??? Because as much as I like Zizek, my hatred for Rand will win. Please tell me I'm missing something. Someone, please, fill me in.

Lol, I'll fill you in. Ofcourse he's joking, he's a marxist, ofcourse he hates Rand, that pseudo-intellectuel xenophobette. A lot of the times his answers are to provoke you, because he hates giving detail about personal things that are not really necessary for others to know (in one of his works, the 'dialogue' with Badiou, he explains why he hates intellectuels who do that). What I guess he means is this: when asked what his favorite film is, which is hard anyway (it can change rather quickly), he names three movies from the three countries that gave birth to the three major ideologies of the 20th century, and the three films themselves show you the core of those respective ideologies, Opfergang (a German nazi film), Ivan the Terrible (to him an metaphor for stalinism) and The Fountainhead because that's basically the US in a nutshell now.
