WASTE OF TIME

Nothing to see, not well presented.
Excellent soundtrack by MOGWAI, was the only thing that made this crap a bit bearable for the hour i watched...
i went out of it as others did at the half of it... saw it in reykjavik iceland.

Honestly mate...

Well... Someone here replying to you suggests that you are ignorant. I'd agree but I'd but a bit further and claim that you are just a bit simple.

reply

lol..you are so ignorant...

reply

yea, your opinion of others' ignorance aside, it was a gigantic waste of time. i had to fast-forward through the DVD it was so bad

reply

You had to fast forward through it? What were you waiting for? What were you expecting? Are car chase?? John McClaine climbing the stadium roof, in hot pursuit of a member of Eta?

Why didn't you just turn the film off and watch something else? You obviously don't like football, you don't recognise or understand the graceful genius of Zidane, so what exactly were you hoping to see in this film? Why did you press play in the first place??

reply

uh..just because you didn't liked it it's a waste of time?...wow..some people in this world...

reply

hi, this is raul.

i am really interested in knowing what is it that you like about this movie?

note PLEASE that i am not being a wise-ass, sarcastic or anything of the sort, i would really like to hear ur opinion, maybe there is something i am unable to feel or see in the movie ,,, i like weird movies too, i am not a mainstream lover at all ,,, but this one in particular was to me a waste of time. but id like to know what is it that would make u think of it as a good movie ...

have a nice day

reply

Well...first of all..Zidane has been my idol, so you can see why I like this movie...it also shows his reaction to what was going on in his team (Real Madrid) at that time...it was a very delicate situation because Real Madrid was going through several conflicts.
The supposedly called "team" wasn't working as one, so you can feel Zidane's frustration in a way.
Real Madrid at that time that the world'a biggest football stars..and it just wasn't woorking.
Sure they may have won the game, but Real Madrid wasn't exactly a team..I think the film does not only shows some of Zidane's skills but it also shows what was happening on the team.

English is not my 1st language so I'm sorry if I couldn't explain myself better.

reply

well, thanks for replying

english is not my first language either so have no worries.

im not a soccer fan, so it was even harder for me to see it ...

i didnt even know who zidane was. before going i knew that he was famous and a good player...

anyway,, once again thanks for replying

whats ur mother language ?

reply

It's Spanish and yours?

reply

it`s borbonic

reply

ha..

reply

well obviously if you are not a football fan and didn't even know who ZIDANE was then you wouldn't enjoy it.

Hey
I haven't see this movie yet, but I got it recently, and unfortunately I could get only the french version (I don't speak french). The first 10 mins of the movie had no dialog, but just the game. Do i really need to get the english version? Is there any dialog or anything important that I would miss?
I would really appreciate it if someone could tell me without ruining the movie for me.
thnx

All you people out there who liked this movie from an artistic point of view are so dumb i want to slap in the head. I was really excited to see this, I am the most enthusiastic American soccer fan in My city, I wanted to see zidane score some goals do some sweet moves, do something. He didn't, from a soccer fan point of view this wasnt even an exciting game in the least bit, a pk a header and a tap in arent exactly exciting. I was so disappointed and bored i almost fell asleep. If the filmmakers had picked any game where he did something exciting this would have been so much better, them playing barca or even atletico madrid would have been better, maybe fa cup game. Please tell me if im wrong but all he did was say "hey", walk, jug a little, pass, dribble a little, rub sweat off his head onto his butt, sweat, spit, tap his foot and insult a fellow teammate, highlight of the movie is when he told whoever cause the pk, " you should be ashamed", and when him and roberto carlos laughed. He has amazing first touches and he doesnt seem to do anything wrong, but he doesnt really do anything exciting either, this was soooooo over hyped I was really sad to see how sucky it was, please dudek guy tell me if im wrong. the soundtrack was also horrible feed back and 10 minutes of 1 note on a synthesizer arent exactly good, or even acceptible.

reply

you should be ashamed of your writing.

i enjoy playing and watching soccer - the filmmakers played with the expectations of people like myself, and that's great. if you want to be entertained, as i've heard variations of this quote from others, "go get a bag of coke and a hooker"; if you want to think, explore, discover, question content and your reaction to content (including your own frustrations and expectations), then allow yourself to explore some art.

this film is good cinema and good art.

my wife is not a sports fan - mostly dislikes team sports, to say the least, and she also enjoyed this film - was fascinated by zidane's apparent sadness and isolation while surrounded by tens of thousands of cheering fans.

reply

for one the entire basis of a movie is to be entertained, if not then what the hell is it for,
u can call the filmakers daring or u could call them stupid, retarted, selfish, they could have picked a more exciting game
for two a reson that zidane could seem isolated from his team is cuz hes the only french guy there, and he doesnt speak spanish or english or german or whatever, he didnt do anything, if this was to show zidane's genius and explosivity i didnt see it i saw him walk almost everywhere and sweat, and say hey and spit
y should i be ashamed guy judd clark
im not even 16 and if you think that was a good movie because of what it made you think and be frustrated with, what am i supposed to question, i question whether the filmmakers were on crack. i was with 2 other fellow soccer lovers and they both hated it
the artistic style of filming was cool but the whole main reason i hated this movie was because of the lack of excitment, no goals from zidane no tricks, no emotions even
I had high expectations because this won some dumb french film festival
i dont have to be ashamed that im not ignorant of bad movies, i wanted it to be good, but it sucked balls.
ALL THEY NEEDED TO DO WAS PICK A WAY MORE EXCITING GAME!!!

reply

For starters this is as much documentry as a film, the whole point is to see the master at work. Alot like watching a wildlife doc with lions hunting etc. This is about a man in his element, how he reacts to moments. You all seem to call it soccer, ITS FOOTBALL. Americans or whatever your naionality you seem to have a very poor attitude to football. This film isn't meant to a movie but a study. If you really like football, you go to games, where to a lesser extent you can watch stars like zidane perform in the flesh. You have an appreciation to how football works. Unlike the bollocks you lot talk about.

@dogfartcar Clearly your just too immature to understand the point of this film. Maybe in 10 years if you actually like football you'll sit down and enjoy this.

reply

heyy cjones dont be ignorant
look i know im young but if u dont appeal to the young in America for SOCCER then it will nevver be the biggest sport on the planet, every suburbanite little kid plays soccer now so in the future it might get more popular, i know its football but still im american, fat and lazy, well im not but half of us are
but if u reallly want football to spread then u cant throw dumb moviess like that into theaters americans want to see action, some sweet moves, goals scored and tackles made, he didnt do any of that there was no genius he never made runs or even set up plays, he sat there silent and sweating and walking unless the ball was in ten feet of him in which case he ran a little
the idea of this movie was terrific and stuff but they picked the wrong game for zidane to do stuff in seriously he didnt do hardly anything, they could have filmed ronaldo at least he scored, i appreciate who zidane is and what he does, his genius his bottled up explosiveness, his grace, but none of that was in this movie, your taking who zidane is and what he does out of context to what he did in this movie. which wasnt much,
and im not immature come on ive played football my whole life I know what its about
if u play fifa 07 for the xbox 360 ill play u online

reply

It is already the biggest sport on the planet.

reply

it is but not for every country, especially america or canada and if football wants to win those two countries over they cant show boring crap like that, it needs to be exciting

reply

Dont worry, football doesnt want to win the dumbasses in Canada and the US over. Thank god.

reply

then why do we get beckham even if its his last hoorah cuz hes not as good as he was anymore, we had pele america needs to be respected as a country of soccer weve beaten mexico plenty our womans team won the world cup for woman
ur a dick the mls all stars beat chelsea
just cuz u hate us americans cuz we could beat u all in a war and totally kick ur ass in a lot of other stuff doesnt mean that we arent good
football should want us football wants everyone ill bet in maybe twenty years we will be so good at soccer we could even win the world cup, but probably not, but we do have we have athleticism and determination.
and this is about that zidane movie being so boring i almost fell asleep but stayed up cuz i was waiting for something exciting to happen and when nothing did i was angry

my god. hahahah this is priceless. I am going to use this. this stupidity is beyond anything.

"just cuz u hate us americans cuz we could beat u all in a war and totally kick ur ass in a lot of other stuff doesnt mean that we arent good"

this is the dumbest comment ever written. and americans good at what exactly? sports no one else plays? movies used for commercialism?

well did you like it
I call it soccer because thats all Ive ever known it to be I can call it football but we have that even though it doesnt make any sense with the dumb sport, but also that quote that the greatest player never has to touch the ball doesnt make any sense what does he do he doesnt have to play if he doesnt touch the ball and thats what zidane did not much they could have filmed a few games when they played better teams or bad teams so zidane could do well
zidane is a legend but not the best the smartest maybe and definately the most graceful but c. Ronaldo is getting better and better and of course ronaldinho
and didier drogba but only because he is my favorite player
and they didnt have to make a movie if it wasnt going to entertain this was more of a tv special than a movie
you say art though which it is kinda it was boring and confusing if thats what you mean but take zidane in context with what you saw in the movie if all you have ever seen zidane do is that movie and never heard of him before you would think he sucks
MOVIES ARE FOR ENTERTAINMENT AND COMMERCIALISM
cricket sucks and golf is boring and so was this movie
basketball, baseball these are american sports that Asia is becoming more and more popular with and since America almost always wins that id say we are a great country
but dont get me wrong America does suck G-dubs our president has a smaller IQ than me , or at least he seems that way plus all our crazy christian ppl anyways im sorry for the dumb stuf i said i was being stupid but this movie was a pathetic attempt at anything exciting there was no grabber or climax and the ending was incredibly abrupt and I didnt see it coming they should have done it slo mo just kidding

reply

Gee whizz.

Personally, I didn't ENJOY the film. It was, however, fascinating.

Zidane is so languid and fluent. As any football fan knows, it's almost like he couldn't give a *beep* about winning but then he'll show some sheer genius and mastery of talent and turn the game on it's head. I thought it was engrossing to see how disconnected he seemed from the whole spectacle. In that aspect of the film, it worked. I guess.

dogfartcar, man, you need to let it go. Football is a bigger passion for some people than it obviously is to you. You don't need to see skill, goals and "sweet moves" for a match to leave you spellbound. It's about passion. Just Zidane's movement would allow other members of his team the space to do their work, hence how the best player on the pitch doesn't even have to touch the ball quote.

Bee Healthy, Eat Honey

reply

well i do know the passion of football at the world cup when the us had that tying goal against italy i was screeming at the top of my lungs jumping all over the place and when it got repealed i cried and i dont need to see amazing moves to love football my favorite player is Didier Drogba not the greatest spectical but i stil think hes the best, and i know how brilliant zidane is but that movie was plain and simple boring if it was on tv id watch it but not a motion picture that i had to pay for, and your not the best if you never do anything otherwise no one would hate frank lampard when he plays for england

reply

One of the worst movies I've ever seen. It had a lot of problems, but for me, the majour one is the fact that 99% of the movie is a close-up of Zidane. I kept hoping that they'd pull back on the action(like soccer usually does) so I could actually see what the Hell was going on. At the end, some of the people started clapping, and so I stared booing and giving the thumbs down. It was pretty funny, actully.

reply

I'm sorry, you must have missed the whole concept of this film. It is called "Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait" not "Real Madrid vs. Villareal". This film is not about watching the game but watching ZIDANE. Grow a brain.

This is not a movie, people... but a documentary film. Realize the effing difference for god's sake. Your ignorance is pathetic and pissing me off.

How can they pick a more exciting game. You don't know if a game will be exciting or not. they have a budget remember, and they were given clearance after the Classico.

Zidane is the most elegant player of all time, and it was to show how he moves on the pitch and the idea is brilliant and the film is brilliant. It was to show how Zidane feels on the pitch.

This is an art film. Not a hollywood entertainment vehicle.
Zidane does speak spanish. didn't you hear him. he speaks excellent spanish and you would know if you saw him in press interviews.

There is a quote that goes that the best player on the pitch doesn't even have to touch the ball. But you wouldn't be able to figure that out.

You're not even 16. Ha. I was going to write more but i don't need to. you answered for yourself. And you call it soccer, again. answer for me.

If you knew the greatness of Zidane you would be amazed at the movie. or if you had a few more brain cells.

fine football alright I take it you dont like americans, and i dont either a lot of us are racist, hicks but there are the couple hundred million who arent and, only being 16 that doesnt make me any more stupid I know they had a budget and it was like 2,500,000 euros, i dont see how they used it all on one game, and for christs sake i know how good zidane was, i might not have been so keen on football in his prime, and now i realise 3 months after seeing such a boring movie i see that it was symbolic of his downfall, even though he was still great but i think he became fed up with it and lashed out with his numerous headbutts and fights, but he did have a nice chipped assist. but it was still boring and a waste of money, but please tell me what you were going to say but didnt because you thoght i was dumb purely because i am only 16, enlighten me o enlightened one

And the us is the best team in north america, we are a very athletic, strong, disciplined and tough team. but we lack skill, finess and grace,
AND we have 3 top PREMIERSHIP goalies

and 0 top premiership defenders, midfielders, or strikers. In fact, 0 top outfield players in any major league...
