This Is One of the Best Movies in Years

I usually never buy a DVD if I have not already seen the movie but I have recently become quite a Seth Rogen fan (I am often told I look like him) and it was only like $5.00 on Amazon so I got it. I have probably watched it at least a dozen times.

There is no reason I should like a film that relies on pot jokes, dick jokes, gay jokes, and other easy targets but the script works and is simply hysterically funny.

Rogen is one of the best comic actors working, and I think he has the potential to be another Albert Brooks - yes, I think he's that good. His character is a slob, he says the wrong things, he's lazy. But when he gets Alison pregnant and she decides not to have a shmishmortion, he does the right thing and sticks by her. He was too good for her. He wanted to marry her and she turned him down. If I was him, I would have dumped her. She was uptight and not a very nice person. And Ben is actually a very cute guy - not movie star handsome but very cute and to some even sexy.

Ben turns out to be a really sweet guy. He makes it obvious he has not had sex with many women. And he had a big heart.

The film also succeeds on many other levels. It is brutally honest about how men behave and view women. It also is one of the few (if only) comedies I can think of in recent memory that is very Jewish. All of Ben roommates are Jewish except for Martin. There are a few great Jewish lines (such as when Alison asks Ben if he uses product in his hair and he says it's called Jew).

Paul Rudd is so good as Debbie's husband I think he was worthy of a supporting actor Oscar nomination.

Add a great cameo by Harold Ramis as Ben's father (although Albert Brooks would have been even better since he looks a bit like Rogen) and some other great celebrity cameos and you have a funny, blatantly raunchy, and ultimately very moving film.

Bravo to Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen.

It's one of the best COMEDIES in years. I think the writing is fantastic. It spawned a slew of these films. Some good, some not so good... But I thoroughly enjoy this. Got it for $2.99

Are you trolling? I hope so. Dear God, I hope so...

"(I am often told I look like him)"

Wouldn't you happen to live in Quebec city? Because I know a guy who has the same face and the amount of people I heard tell him this exact sentence.

But one of the best movies in years? Fuck, no.
