Are all the 2007 Horrorfest movies this bad?

I really enjoyed almost all of the Horrorfest movies from 2006. This is the first one I watched of the 2007 movies and oh my, it was bad.

Remember Night of the Demons from back in the 80's? Yeah, the demon makeup in that movie was better than in Nightmare Man. And Linnea Quigley had better boobs than the actresses in this movie on top of it ;). I usually really like low budget horror movies so I am really disappointed.

Do all the 2007 movies suck this bad? Should I bother watching the other ones?

reply

Every movie had different directors with different bugets, so NO, they're definitely not the same in that respect.

Ask yourself, we're any of the 2006 Horrorfest movies the same?

reply

I didn't ask if they were all the same. I asked if they all sucked. Different directors, different budgets... that doesn't really mean that they weren't all equally bad. The 2006 movies were all very different, of course, but for the most part they were decent flicks.

Anyway, I just watched Tooth and Nail so I think I might have answered my own question. :(

There are two really good ones this year. They are Mulberry Street and Borderland. The others are a waste of time IMO. I did not like any of last year's 8 either.

reply

Dude, are you an idiot? How could NOT have liked any of the ones from last year? Granted, The Hamiltons sucked ass but the rest were pretty freaking good i.e. The Gravedancers Unrest and Dark Ride were all really entertaining. All of you people judge movies too harshly.....

I loved Tooth and Nail, so I won't say they all sucked - though Unearthed and Lake Dead were really bad movies, in some respect.

reply

Unrest.. come on man. That film was terrible. I laughed throughout, at everything. The Hamiltons, The Abandoned, and Reincarnation MADE 2006's Horrorfest.

Too bad Borderland was the only good one in 2007.

This turd was by far the worst of all the horrorfest i've seen. I rarely turn a movie off, but I shut this thing down after about 20 minutes. The 'nightmare man' wasn't scary at all, he was a short dwarf wearing a black sweater and a cheap rubber mask. I repeatedly caught the actor's skin peeking out from beneath the clothes as he ran.

Mulberry street was horrible. Those rat-things were a joke, and show me an apartment building anywhere in America where someone does not own a gun and I'll give you $50. 3/10

The best one from all the horrorfests I've seen so far is 'The Deaths of Ian Stone', which was 2007. 8/10

Crazy Eights was not bad. 2007 7/10

Unrest - well, the chick was pretty. 5/10. Lot of contrived, hard to believe stuff around what she got away with in that one.

Abandoned was well-shot with good cinematography but lousy story.

Lake Dead was ok all around for a basic slasher flick. For the same idea, Hotel Hell is a lot funnier, and texas chainsaw massacre (the original, not the turd remake) is scarier.

Unearthed could easily be one of those mediocre monster movies that appear every saturday on Sci Fi network.

I haven't seen the rest. Any suggestions?

I really like your Bateman quote

what i don't get is that, from around the world, these are the best 8 they could find?
i did like 'the deaths of ian stone' and 'borderland.'

Don't all these poor B grade movies under one banner kind of remind anyone of Masters of Horror? I mean, really these films have been pumped up as "must see", "too horrifying for regular movie goers, yet hardly any of them are worth sitting all the way through.

reply

I thought most of the Masters of Horror episodes were better than these movies. Well, some of them anyway.

reply

Maybe your right. At least the MOH episodes spared us the extra half hour or so of poor storytelling and lack of continuity. And the plots were more creative and didn't always take themselves so seriously.

reply

I've seen every Masters of Horror episode from season 1 and 2 and they are all pretty great except maybe 2 or 3 from each season but other than that they are worth watching. MOH is way freakin better than the Horrorfest movies, except Mulberry Street and Tooth and Nail are pretty good from what i've seen so far.

reply

This was the only one that I thought was downright terrible. The rest were at least semi ok and a couple were good.

reply

i cant decide if i liked it or not. it was just weird overall i guess. i hated Crazy Eights...cuz i was like WTF through the whole thing. Borderland is the only one i liked so far. I just rented Unearthed...is that one any good?

yay for scary movies.

reply

To me this is Horrorfest's strongest year.It seems you just picked a bad film of the 2nd Annual to watch.

reply

Yes they are all bad! I watched about half of them and they all suck. Don't bother watching any of them because they are all half-assed efforts from mostly talentless people and the movies scripts and special effects suck. This one was one of the worst though.

reply

The deaths of ian stone is good and so is borderland. I dont think nightmare man was scary but it was entertaining. I watched it with some friends and enjoyed most of the hokey dialogue. We knew the husband was behind it the whole time but we still kept on watching it. A movie doesn't have to be great to be enjoyable and i think this was a good example of that.

From now on I'll always be creeped out when someone asks "Want to see a magic trick?"
