80s B-movie spirit

When I was a kid I grew up watching B horror movies on the USA Network during the late 80s and early 90s. Now as an adult I notice that most horror movies that are lower budget seem to take themselves way too seriously and fail to pull it off. There's nothing worse than a film that's dreary, boring and dead serious, without even a sense of humor or fun. I do like some recent serious horror movies (such as Session 9, Shutter, The Devil's Backbone, The Orphanage, etc.) IF they're done well, and I also enjoy horror films that use the genre to take on social issues (such as this year's Diary of the Dead), but there's also a place for lighter low budget B movies that just try to entertain. I honestly think this is one of the better recent ones I've seen in this style and in many ways it seems a lot like something from the 80s. It was made with a sense of humor, energy, enthusiasm and I liked most of the cast (particularly Tiffany Shepis). In my opinion, it was fun. Surprised by all the hate actually.

I too found this film to be a lot of fun. Tiffany Shepis totally rocked her part!

This movie had an almost " Friday The 13th " inspirational type edge to it along with a few other classic movie highlights as well ( " Gaslight " and other examples comes to mind like " Halloween " or even " The Exorcist " ) . Of course this movie has a somewhat different storyline to it but the acting / dialogue and darkened settings overall seemed along the same lines as these other films . All of this just my personal opinion of course . Thanks capkronos for your subject post .
