Death Metal and Grindcore

I've been listening to a lot more death metal and grindcore bands recently than I ever have, and I'm quite curious as to what truley sets these two genres apart. The only things I can think of is that grindcore bands often have incredibly short songs, and a punk influence seems to be apparant in many grindcore songs.

Anyway, I know many bands go between genres, but I am curious. Thanks in advance.

Death Metal is a bit more agressive. Grindcore is really short and has a crust-punk feel, meanwhile Death Metal is them goin' at their instruments. If you want a really good Grindcore band, try Anal C-nt, their songs are freekin' hilarious, as are their song titles (ex. "Everyone in Limp Bizkit Should Be Slaughtered", "The Only Reason Guys Hang Out With You is Because They Want to Get Laid You Stupid F-cking C-nts", "I Noticed That You're Gay", etc.).

Oh and Dfle3, please don't bother with this thread. You'll read it and then all of a sudden mention Hilts' definition of Gospel Music, Midnight Oil and INXS, pop music, me being Hilt's poodle, etc...

Grindcore is awesome, they basically throw out all musical rules like timing and scales, and go for a more raw, high energy feel. Also good but not quite the same is Goregrind, they use more structured songs and are closer to death metal. A good example is early Carcass which I describe as "medical dictionary grind" because thats basically where they got their lyrics from.

A man on the move, and just sick enough to be totally confident.

Cool, thanks.

Yeah I've heard "I lit your baby on fire" by Anal *beep* quite funny. Nice to hear a sense of humour in songs, no matter how dark.

Grindcore has punk music influence, where as Death Metal bands don't.
