Good Cohen covers

Obviously Buckley's version of 'Hallelujah' is spectacular. But has anyone heard Tori Amos' version of 'Famous Blue Raincoat'? It's on a tribute album called Tower of Song.
IMHO it is up there with Jeff Buckley's cover of 'Hallelujah'.
Anyone else know of any other good Cohen covers?

Going back a bit to start with, but these are still some of my faves:
Judy Collins: "Suzanne" - on the 1966 "In My Life" album but also collected in the 2004 compilation Judy Collins Sings Leonard Cohen: Democracy.
Joe Cocker: "Bird On the Wire" - on the 1969 album "Joe Cocker!" and probably also on some of his compilations.
Roberta Flack: "Hey, That's No Way To Say Goodbye" - on 1971's "First Take".

You have to include the entire "Famous Blue Raincoat" 1986 tribute album by Jennifer Warnes here as well.

For something recent, k.d.lang's "Hallelujah" and "Bird on the Wire" from her 2004 album "Hymns of the 49th Parallel".

Although it's not 100% at Leondard song, there's a great version of "The Partisan" by Noir Desir & 16 Horsepower.

Martin Gore's "Coming Back to You" is just wonderful.

My cover of "Closing Time" is great, if I may say so myself

So is Fairport Conventions....

:-)

where is fairport convention's cover?

I agree. I can't really sing but for some reason I'm pretty happy with my version of Leonard songs like bird on a wire. maybe they are just easy to sing.

Nina Simone's "Suzanne" and Jan Arden's "If it Be Your Will" come to mind.

Do they talk about the Buckley cover in the movie? I didn't see his name in the credits (or rather reference to any archive footage)...

I love Rufus Wainright's cover of "Chelsea Hotel" in the movie.

rufus wainwright's cover of "hallelujah" is quite good, i think, though not as good as Jeff Buckley's. The rock band AM/FM does a pretty good cover of "Hey that's no way to say goodbye" on their album "Getting into sinking." Most of my faves have been pretty well covered here by you previous posters.

Wainwright's cover of Hallelujah is almst INDENTICAL to Buckley's. It's really erie. Especiallyy considering how Rufus thinks of himself as in the same gay musical lineage as Buckley.

Best cover: Johnny Cash "Bird on a Wire" with the london philharmonic

Pretty awesome

Gay musical lineage?!?

Pearls Before Swine's version of "Suzanne" is excellent. Plus Judy Collins sang a few L.C. songs (like "Bird on a Wire" and "The Sisters of Mercy") and did a tremendous job with them.

Leonard's foreward to the Chinese language "Beautiful Losers" was priceless...and made the movie for me.
