Fun Z-film

When Roger Corman made his cheapest productions in the 1950s, his monsters looked like they were made out of junk, or like old tires wrapped around a dried christmas tree. Some films were made for only a few 1000 dollars.

King Of The Lost World reminds me of Corman's early black & white AIP productions (before he took on his colorful Edgar Allan Poe series). It is definitely inspired by the tv series LOST (the crashed airplanes, the spread-out luggage, the jungle, the struggles between people, the looks of the doctor-leader and the tough girl), uses character names like Roxton, Challenger and Summerlee out of Arthur Conan Doyle's 1912 novel THE LOST WORLD, and throws in a giant ape (see KING KONG) and other giant scorpions, dragons and spiders for good fun.

The actresses are scantily clad - well, just like in LOST - and actors as well as actresses look attractive enough and act good enough to keep the incoherent story going on. I don't agree with what I've read in the comments about this film; I'm sure it is the awful script that takes the film down the drain, not the actors. And, ofcourse, the extremely blurry CGI of the giant ape. Why so very much blurried? I thought the forced perspectives in which we see the giant was rather interesting, but his foggy CGI movements spoiled it somewhat.

Still, all in all good fun for a rainy afternoon (80 minutes is just long enough), and it made me curious indeed for other productions of Global Asylum Inc.

I'm sorry to say I can't have the same opinion. I thought it sucked.

Poon you I shall.

That's okay, you have the right to your own opinion.

I too find sometimes that other films suck, while some other people think they are fun. That's the main deal with Z-films (like the early Roger Corman monster movies, or the infamous Ed Wood 'Plan Nine from Outer Space'). You either like 'em or hate 'em.

Actor Chris Becker is dreamy.

I thought this film was very entertaining. Sure, it's a rip-off of other hit movies and TV shows, but it blended all those elements together in a lively and enjoyable way. Moreover, the acting was solid and the ladies sure looked nice.

300 bios and counting.
