Focus problems?

I just a promotional screening of this movie and such usually get pretty good projection.

By the end of the movie I had a headache because it seemed half of the scenes were just slightly out of focus. I'm ready to blame it on the theater but then all of the scenes would have been out of focus.

The story is pretty good but I was just too distracted by the annoying quirks of the filmmaker. Every shot is a super closeup so I feel like I'm talking to a nose and the camera has to constantly moving to track the target. Plus the lens was frequently very dirty.

But mostly I'm wondering about the focus and whether I should be blaming that on the movie or on the theater.

From what I know this was a real headache for post-production because for the film to make it to the theatrical marketplace, raw footage shot on DV, plus material acquired on other formats like VHS, Beta SP and 8mm, had to be edited and assembled for the theatrical release on 35mm. Personally I think they did a great job considering the challenges involved.

I had read your comment before seeing the movie this past weekend, so I was probably on guard for any focus problems. I think that there were maybe two scenes where the focus wasn't great, but they certainly didn't detract from the movie.

The focus is bad throughout the movie, beyond the various technical limitations of the formats, which are also a problem. It's a great story otherwise, though.
