Permission

In preparing the film, I believe it was noted that it took many years before
the monks gave permission to have cameras floating around among them as they go about their daily lives in the monastery. Why could it have taken so long? And what could have changed so much that they would agree to have something that was once hidden now made to be seen?

reply

Perhaps they simply opened their doors in order to shut the filmmakers up. 16 years is a long time to be pestering a monk.

reply

Probably because until they let the filmmaker in they didn't open the monastery to visitors. It is a closed community.
