Indeed i rented it from Netflix and saw the devotion that went into it.

I liked the idea of doing a faux silent film showing what a Cthulu movie would look like if made during HP's lifetime.

I'm hoping for another.

They are making The Whisperer in the Dark (see http://www.cthulhulives.org/Whisperer/trailer.html) but by the looks of it, it's going to be a talkie in the style of classic horror films like the original The Haunting etc.

How much of a fan can you be if you can't even get the name right? "Call of the Cthulhu?"

reply

How about a "Call of the Ktulu" movie?

I would also like this made into a contemporary film. I am also interested to see the silent film mentioned above, but it is a truly wonderful story that could also make for a very moody and creepy film in the future. I don't want to see it updated to take place in 2008, I don't want it dumbed down, and I don't want the essence of the story portrayed sorta. Someone should just do what they can with the material provided. I just want to see a true adaptation in my lifetime.

I am currently working on an independent film adaption of 'The Whisperer in Darkness'.

We are currently writing but are trying to keep it as close to the book as possible. We are updating it, as making an indie 1920's era movie would be costly, but we are keeping the technology to a minimum. Think early 1990's.

But like I said, we are keeping to the story as close as we can. And it looks like it is going to be pretty good.

If anyone is interested in helping us with the production, let me know.

Simmer down skipper, at least wait until he has something to show us before telling him off.

We are also working on a Cowboy Bebop live action adaptation.

As for the Lovecraft, we are in pre-production stages still. We are waiting on the script to be finished. It is taking a while so we can make sure it is faithful.

You sound a little like a kid, so I don't rate your little *beep* project's and go *beep* yourself anyway.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Totally uncalled for, man. what a jerk. You should be grateful someone offers for you to do anything. I wouldn't rate your little *beep* life too highly, but I don't go and disrespect you over it. Grow a pair and get a life.

Wow. Oleron puts words into the poster's mouth and then condemns him for those words. Ever hear of a straw man? Ridiculous.

As I have the story in front of me, the title is "The Call of Cthulhu". Get it right, noob.

Agree we definitely need a Call of Chtulhu movie,
a nice adaptation of the book, and a big budget one too!

Why doesn't the silent version count, as some people are suggesting?

The fan made silent movie Call of Cthulhu is about as close to a true to the story movie as we are likely to ever see short of other determined fans doing simmilar. Though some of the trys have been at least entertaining, while others like Dagon and Necronomicon have been appallingly bad.

As for the proposed "Whisperer" movie. Since about 90% of the book takes place on a remote farm the story is near perfect for a 20's setting as so little of that time is shown. Colour out of Space and a few others lend well too for the same reason. They take place in remote areas mostly cut off from the rest of the world or tech. And quite a few farms even now have that look and feel. All you really need is to find a train station with one of the older style locomotives on it and get permission to film the main characters disembarking. Then transition to the farm. If a suitably old car cannot be had simply transition all the way to him walking up to the front porch and mentioning his car is parked "over there".
This can free up alot of funds for the props which are also minimal and can be reproduced with some baser look-alikes at fairly low fundage.
The Mi-Go costume is where most of the fundage will get sunk. We actually had proposed once a pretty viable suit design.

Wish the old family home was still standing. Something straight out of one of those books. Remote and furnished still at the turn of the last century even into the late 80s. I'd be renting the place out for these sorts of period piece movies in a second!

Good point about location/setting.

I agree I would love to see a large budget Call Of Cthulhu movie not that the silent one isn't good. But I would love to see a really scary and good looking adaptation.
