Atlantic City

Why wouldn't they just go to AC, where(since 1979) Casinos CANNOT ban players for counting cards? They are at MIT, so the distance isn't an issue. I cant figure out why they would neglect the perfect card counting location.

That's exactly what I was thinking when I first saw this movie. But I guess Vegas is flashier for movie purposes.

reply

AC is barely worth going for a card counter. Many better options.

I always wondered why they didn't hit casinos in other cities. There's Atlantic city, several casinos in Louisiana, Reno, etc. That way they could fly under the radar for a while. Rather than going to the same places in Vegas where the security already had their eyes on them.

Even if the original MIT students did go to Atlantic City, a lot of the Ritz of this movie was the cinematic appeal of Vegas. Notice the use of colors and wide shots between The Campus and Vegas.
Like the dull brown basement where they trained versus the balcony suite at MGM.
Dorm room/Hotel
Clothing store/Slot Machine Floor

Ephemeron.
