and communism is evil because...?

Communism: You pay higher taxes so that if you or a stranger becomes seriously ill or injured, you or that stranger will receive medical treatment and not be in debt to the hospital for the rest of their life. "evil"

Capitalism: You pay less taxes and if you become hurt and don't have thousands of dollars saved up, you lose any hope of having a financially stable future. Poor people who get hurt or sick are essentially screwed because there's no way they can afford health care. "good"

-

Communism: Schools are funded by your tax dollars so that young minds get the education their parents may not be able to afford if education were to be privatized and thus allow them to break free from poverty and go on to become successful. "evil"

Capitalism: All schools are privatized. The rich stay educated, the poor stay dumb. If your parents can't afford to send you to school, too bad for you. "good"

-

Communism: If you fall on hard times, the government guarantees you a modest paycheck and at the very least, food stamps, to make sure no American, no matter how incapable of working or unfortunate, is allowed the chance to survive. "evil"

Capitalism: Survival of the fittest. If you're too dumb, weak, or unskilled to work, you deserve to starve to death. "good"

Yeah I know that the U.S. isn't like that, what I'm pointing out is that all of the great benefits of our country; public schools, welfare, etc are tenets of socialism/communism. Capitalism more or less is about low taxes and an every man for himself attitude. I've never understood why socialism is considered evil other than that it's what we were taught because we were afraid the USSR would become the rulers of the world.

Agreed! Noted American socialist Michael Harrington in fact called what passed for communism in the USSR "State capitalism" -- a handful of wealthy, powerful people rulling everybody else & taking a smuch as possible for themselves -- not unlike the predatory capitalism of present-day America, with corporate CEOs standing in for commissars.
