Come on, you knew it was coming eventually.....

GTA 4 is better IMO.

Being the front runner of the two to begin with. However, two things I'm glad GTA 4 included from Saints Row.
- Shooting in any direction while driving
- The GPS thingy (hi-lighted route on HUD)

I think a better comparison would be Saints Row 2 Vs GTA 4 especially since its out reaaaaly soon.

here's how it goes
Saints Row vs San Andreas
Saints Row 2 vs GTA 4
not how you had it, you gonna have call of duty 1 vs halo 3 next buddy?

and saints row definitely beats out san andreas, now to see number 2

reply

oh yeah, i noticed that the fist fighting in gta 4 is still just a one button command....

you can't see me.....

reply

"still"? San Andreas had something a bit more complicated. and you can use a button to punch and another one to kick in gta4, dunno about blocking though

yes, in san andreas you can get different styles and yet the controls still suck, amazing. got nothing on saints row, even gta4 didn't do melee fighting as good as saints row. waiting for saints 2 to be put up against grand theft auto 4, honestly though, i don't think the graphics on saints row 2 will be as good as gta4, but i'm sure the gameplay will be much better.

meh, that's a perspective thing. I don't mind the melee controls in san andreas or gta4, I'm not usually using melee anyway, but it's an opinion so... blah

lol, alright, I'll compare. If Saints Row 2 has online multiplayer that's as good as gta4's, then it'll stand more of a chance in my mind. otherwise I just reeeeaally dig the realism in gta4

GTAIV has bad controls, poor driving physics, an annoying cell phone, and so so online. I recently got rid of my 360 cause I was sick of it dying, and got a PS3, and I miss SR so much. GTAIV just can't fill my SR fix.

SR2 is gonna totally PWN GTAIV, and I'd say Saints Row as a series has a very good chance of stealing GTA's crown as the king of open world games. Rockstar messed up with IV really bad. It may have broken sales records, but most of those copies were returned. Every Gamestop I go into has damn near a full wall of used GTA IV's. Rockstar were so focused on the production values that they forgot about the gameplay and fun factor.

ONE THING'S FOR SURE...
SA's soundtrack (1 alone) blows EVERY SINGLE grand theft auto's sdtrk. out of the water!!!!!

Elliot: but that doesn't make sense

Got to love all the GTA IV owners that try so hard to defend there favorite game. When I first played through GTA IV I hated it, a protagnist that crack jokes in every *beep* conversation and with so annoying surroundings that you simple didnt care if they die or not plus that they try to do so much realism that it crapped itself and all the shootouts and car chases was so increadible slow that it turned immediately boring, it was more playable on the second round when most of the disappointments dissappered and that you as a matter of fact had paid full price for this load of disappointment to actully play it.

So yeah, I still prefer old Saint Row over the overrated *beep* game GTA IV.

I am completely baffled that anybody could possibly think Saints Row 1 is superior to GTA. *Any* GTA from 3 and up! It's as if THQ found some random 13 year old San Andreas fanboy and said "We'd like you to design a video game for us." The best thing I can say about it is that some of the side mission activities are really fun... or at least funny. (e.g. riding shotgun with the suburban soccer-mom drug dealer.) But everything about it is just so rough and shoddy. One of the most unpolished games I've ever played.

I dunno, maybe if I'd played it back in 2006 I'd feel differently. But I still have other 360 games I bought back then, i.e. Dead Rising, Lost Planet, Gears of War... hell, even Perfect Dark Zero is more polished than this crap.

I agree with you. I'm just now getting around to playing the Saints Row games . . . just finishing up #1 at the moment (I'm at 75%--I finished the story, but I'm just finishing up side activities until I get tired of them (I almost never care about trying to get 100% in any game) . . . I'm anxious to move on to #2 now).

Saints Row 1 was a lot of fun, and as a huge GTA fan, I dug that it's such a clone of those games, but it's also very glitchy at times.

It seems ridiculous to consider it as polished as something like GTA IV. I'd maybe compare it to GTA III--I prefer GTA III, but I just mean that it seems most similar to III in terms of graphics, the style of it, etc.

Re GTA IV, I love it as much as any other GTA game from III on. I never understood the complaints about it (such as the complaints about driving--I never had the slightest bit of a problem driving in GTA IV. I don't know why other folks did. I'd like to see what they're doing when they drive in the game . . . I wonder just how many racing games those folks have played.)

I've had Saints Row I and II sitting on my shelf for ages, and like yourself I've only just got around to playing the first one. Over the last two years (since being made redundant), I've played all five GTA games on the PS2, GTAIV and the DLC on the XBo, all the Assassins Creed series and so forth - I'm a sucker for open world "sandbox" games - and since finishing Sleeping Dogs over the Bank Holiday weekend I thought I'd get through the Saints Row series to fill in the time until GTAV comes out.

I'm only 30% through the first SR, but I'm finding it extremely tedious and feel like a hamster on a freakin' wheel, doing the same thing over and over again in four different locations (even more so than I did playing the first Assassins Creed) - four sets of Snatch, four sets of Escort, four sets of Hitman - AAAAARGH!!! This is just So NOT fun. I want to like this game, I really do, but I'm just going through the motions. I don't like or care about the characters and what happens to them, the story is rather "meh", the AI is so effin unforgiving that it frequently wants to make me throw my controller through the TV screen and the XBox out of the window. I want to just not play this anymore but my OCD won't permit me until I get that 100%.

I know that Claude didn't say a word on GTAIII, but to be honest, I found the gameplay, the city and the whole feel of GTAIII much better to Saints Row. I just want this game to be over with asap so I can start on the second one (which will hopefully be a vast improvement over this) - although I don't think I could face doing any more Snatch, Escort or Hitman activities. At least in GTA you can mix things up a bit, be a little more imaginative and inventive in how you approach your tasks and missions. In SR you don't and that, in my opinion, doesn't make it a true open world game.

Saints Row. I hated GTA IV more than any other GTA game. From the sluggish driving mechanics to the "Sims" type things that were unnecessarily put in the game. GTA is about action but GTA IV goes at a snail's pace, you don't really get that high adrenaline rush from it. It's more simulation and less of an arcade type game, which isn't what GTA is about.
