Don't Bother!

Being a huge Rugby League fan, I was very excited over the fact that a movie was being made about the world's greatest game. But after 15 minutes into the film, I knew I was about to be let down.

If you want to see a underdog sports movie, don't bother with this. Rent a copy of 'Remember The Titans'. The dialogue was flat. The acting was almost unbearable. The actual football played in the movie looked like it had been choreographed by an under 7's benchwarmer. And after seeing Angus Sampson in 'Kokoda', I had almost forgotten how bad 'You And Your Stupid Mate' was. Every movie I see from now on I will mke sure he is not in it.

Though I must say it wasn't all bad, the 5 minutes that featured the beautiful Claudia Karvan was great, but the other 85 minutes of crap was as annoying as Anh Do's smile.

It's a shame this beat The Final Winter in being the first film about Rugby League

I watched this movie last night and after the minor hype surrounding it i also expected it to be at least semi-good. I had a lot to put in here but i think you have answered just about everything in your post "scottbuglar". I was extremely disappointed in the movie and it was a complete let down. I watched it to the end hoping i could get at least ONE laugh or enjoy ONE moment but that never eventuated.I would like the 90 mins of my life back to watch paint dry and the kettle boil. Im sure Claudia Karvan and Peter Phelps cringe whenever anyone mentions this movie to them. Its the story of a Vietnamese family and the struggles they have in life with a poorly filmed footy match at the end. I gave it 1 out of 10 on IMDB but thats because you cant select zero. I even think zero would be too much. awful awful movie.

On the contrary, I am sure that Claudia Karvan and Peter Phelps would have known exactly the level of project they were signing up for and proudly supported a low budget Australian movie - and kudos to them for doing so. Their decision to be involved in this project and their performances does not diminish my respect and admiration for them as actors - in fact, it only increases it.

Once again, just like on every other Message Board for every other movie, there are people trying to sound insightful and intelligent by pointing out what's bad about a movie. It's much easier to come up with criticisms about movies than it is to specify what you liked. But then again it does inspire a healthy debate. And there's way to many people asking for 'X minutes of my life back'. That just makes me laugh. Good luck with that!
I thought the movie was great, inspiring, and had some lovely messages, in particular, it allowed a great insight into the private lives of a migrant family. Some may have missed that. Good on the Do brothers - i'd be proud if I were you!

I liked this movie. It's obviously not a masterpiece in any sense of the word, but it's a fun way to spend 90 mins.

This film wasn't made to win academy awards and everything. I mean, it was made around Yagoona and everything, and with Anh Do, you could expect it to be comical. It was a little Aussie film made to entertain people who aren't out to be critics of everything, rather people wanting to enjoy a small movie and I liked it for what it was. But yeah everyones got their own opinion.

i found it had good humour and emotion even if it wasnt super flash i mean if you want to criticise why don't you make a movie or play first grade (nrl).
