You can try Dal Ja's Spring.. To me it's better than Sam Soon in a way because the lead character (Oh Dal Ja) seemed to "grow up" in the show, and finally learn to take control of her life; unlike Kim Sam Soon who's still chasing after (or hung up on) Sam Shik-ah's attention.. Dal Ja's Spring is like Korean version of Sex and the City targetting social stereotypes.

It also puts a break on Cliches and there's not exactly a bad character whom you can truely hate. Everyone has their issues and they are acting certain ways because of that. I remember on episode 2 Wee Seon Joo told Oh Dal Ja that "do you think women's rivals are women" while helping her to get a cab, and sometimes the side characters outshine the lead character..

To me it's more grown up drama than Sam Soon .. ALthough I loved Sam Soon at the beginning because of her strong personality but I was annoyed at the end when she let herself become weak because of that guy.

"Stained Glass" is another great Korean drama as well. Azn Television doesn't air it unfortunately. If you live in the Los Angeles area, KSCI channel 18 airs it from time to time. I saw that show long before I saw "My Lovely Sam-soon" and I'd say it's probably just as good.

reply

Thank you for the recommendation... Could you give me the spoilers of Stain glass? Like what will happen at the end?? It's just that I tend to watch most dramas after I learn about the ending (im just not patient enough).. thanks in advance..

reply

Shoot, I can't remember how it ended. It's been over a year since I've seen this show, and since I don't live in LA anymore, there's probably not a chance I'm gonna see it again anytime soon unless AZN Television decides to start showing it or if I shell out the money for the DVD set.

At this point, I can only provide a synopsis. Hope this helps!

*****SPOILERS BELOW*************

I will say it's essentially about two men (brothers) who have fallen in love with the same woman. As a result of this, they become rivals. One brother ends up in Japan, being adopted by a wealthy family there, while the other stays in Korea. The brother that remained in Korea, Gi Tae, began a courtship with the woman, Ji Soo, whom of which both brothers were competing over. After 12 years of being in Japan, the other brother, Dong Joo, returns to Korea and finds Gi Tae now seriously involved with Ji Soo. Now, it's up to Dong Joo to see if he can win her affection without destroying his friendship/relationship with his brother.

**~~**MAJOR SPOILER ALERT**~~**

Gi Tae dies.

LAST EPISODE:

As he got up to leave, he coughed badly, and Eun-suh handed him a tissue paper. Gi-tae grabbed a towel from the table and was shocked to see that he coughed out blood. When Ah-suh saw it, she prompted him to visit a doctor. Gi-tae replied that it was too late; he is entering the final stage of his life and would die eventually. He also replied that if being apologetic, she should not visit him again and make no mention of his whereabouts to their family. With that he left.

At this time, a policeman brought a green jacket from the counter, saying that it was found on the beach. The policeman showed a wallet with Gi-tae's identity card, and asked Dong-joo to reconfirm if it was Gi-tae's. As he looked on, he was shocked with disbelief. Ji-soo and Dong-joo ran out of the hotel, and onto the beach, where they shouted for Gi-tae repeatedly. Dong-joo's face, twisted with sadness, sunk onto the beach as he called for him, with Ji-soo to comfort and restrain him.

"My Girl" is the greatest Korean Drama for me but I also like "My lovely Kim Sam Soon" because I can relate to her and my classmate once told me that I look like her from a far because I'm kinda overweight.

I recommend "MY GIRL" it's pretty funny and the lead looks like Kim Sam Soon.
