Dixie originally dared her mother to do it, making a comment about how a pink door would be like coming home (something like that). Angel laughed it off and said her father (Jake Delton -- Burt Reynolds' character) would go nuts if she actually did it. I don't know why Dixie painted the door the day of the sunrise service at the high school, but I speculate it was a combination of that whole coming home idea and a tangible representation that things were turning out alright for the family after all the past hardships and recent tragedies they had been through together. Just an idea. :)

When Angela and Dixie were painting the columns, Dixie came with a bucket of pink paint and said "Nothing says welcome like pink front doors". Angela told her no, that they could not paint the front door pink because her father was too traditional or something like that. Then Dixie painted them pink anyway.

...and just 'cuz she's young and a bit of a rebel. White is plain and boring, but pink is..well..not boring. I went to Kelly Preston's Bed & Breakfast in Key West last summer. Some of the scenes in this movie made me think of it, then to find out the house was actually a B&B in GA-that's pretty cool.

i agree with all the ideas too. Dixie did suggest it and her mom said no way but when she did it i think it was her sign of saying that things would be ok along with everything else.

You don't understand why she painted the door pink????????????????
Probably because she wanted to, however if she painted it the morning on the sunrise service then she must've done it in the dark.
OH and BTW,
Kelly Preston does not have a B&B in Key West, but Kelly Mcgillis, the actress from the Amish movie Witness does.
