Good Movie

It was subbed, but still good. Hard to follow though probably because of translation, but good action.

reply

It was gorgeously shot (as was the female lead, IMHO) but a little silly, I thought. There also was not very much dialogue to mistranslate.

reply

I wouldn't mind seeing a follow-up to this film, as long as they took some time to bulk up the storyline a bit more.

I wonder about the scene where he killed his biological father - blaming him for the curse of the blade?

Is it a hereditary trait though? His mother would have known - perhaps that's why she split up with his real father?

It would be interesting to find out a little bit more about the origins of the blade ability. Is it a family curse from an old Russian witch? Is it a gift to punish the guilty?

Are there others like him?

reply

Are you kidding? The movie is total crap: it's a story about a psycho schizophrenic who just kills most of the people for no particular reason. For example, what was the point of killing the guy who sold the dagger to Sasha? And what was the point of buying that dagger if he has a knife inside his hand? Anyway, the script totally sucks and the movie is ridiculous.

reply

He didn't kill the guy who sold the dagger. He just beat him but not killed!

reply

The way I see it, he only killed men. He had had some bad examples in his life: his biological dad who abandoned him and his mother, and payed no alymony (I'm not sure i wrote that correctly)and his mothers' new boyfriend who beat her. And this made him very protective of women, and very very hot tempered towards men. But he only intentionaly killed his biological dad. His mothers new boyfriend was an accident I believe. And then the guy who sold him the blade, I think he must have attacked him, since he was the one who suggested to to go to a dark alley. And I thought all the other men attacked him.
So yeah, he was pretty aggresive (yes, I realise this is a huge understatement), but I do believe there was always some kind of trigger to his aggresion.

Also I think he bought the dagger so he would have to use his 'built in blade', 'cus from the guys face that whole process was pretty painful.

Then again, me I my friend both thought the main actor was kind of hot, so maybe we are a little biased.

Life can be sort of peaceful when you stop struggling. It's a lot like drowning that way

Total nonsensical crap. The concept of a "magical sword-arm curse" isn't even hinted at in the "script." The "story" was "lame." I thought that this movie "was" a piece of rotten balls rot.

reply

I agree. Especially ridiculous was the scene at the end where Sasha cuts half of the trees in the forest with his hidden knife (i wonder what was the size of it supposed to be)

reply

Your mind is probably one-sided.

The movie is brilliant! I'm totally tired of american stupid "all-good" movies like Superman/Spiderman/Hulk/X-men/Fantastic 4, etc...

Those american stories (Superman/Spiderman/Hulk/X-men/Fantastic 4) are the real crap!

But this movie (Sword Bearer) is decadence-european and authentic! It is brilliant!

After stupid american films, i've got so much pleasure from watching Sword Bearer!

reply

Wow. Thanks for making this all about how America sucks at making movies.

I don't think anyone liked "Hulk," anyway.

Stupid American films are exactly what Mechenosets was desperately trying to emulate.

P.S. IT FAILED.

Give us a reason why this movie is brilliant?

reply

Ha-ha! This movie don't emulate american movies at all.

American comix movies are made of positive easy-predictable storyline construction of hero against bad guys. Mechenosets is far away from that. And it is far away from american movies at all.

You can watch one American comix movie to predict the storyline of others. So other american comix movies are really boring, after you had watched one of them. Instead of Mechenosets is original fresh story made in decadence stylistics! That's why it is brilliant - because it's fresh, absolutely new and original!

I really like it!

I totally agree; The sword Bearer is an intelligent and beautifully shot film, a million times better than those rotten American action films you mentioned. Crap like "The hulk" and "Fantastic Four' are nothing but artless, obnoxious, headache inducing vomit. They are throwaway films, something to see and forget about 5 minutes later. It was great seeing a film that is action, fantasy, AND artistic. It amazes me how poor some people's taste in film is.

"IMdB; where 14 year olds can act like jaded 40 year old critics...'

Ok. What was the point of beating the guy?

Sergeu, it's OK for you to be a proud nationalistic Soviet, but that doesn't mean that you have to enjoy this movie.

Knock the USA's movies all you want, the reality is that whatever country you live in pays to see them regardless.

Regardless, I'm sick of you attacking dissenting opinions with anti-American trash talk. You don't have to like our movies. I also don't like most Russian language movies. They tend to be too introspective for my personality to enjoy. The dramatics seem long and overly drawn out, and motive is commonly obscured. I simply think, in those instances, that I don't fully understand the Russian cultural approach to filmmaking.

Mechenoset's was nothing to my country. It hasn't even come out on video yet in the USA. You and your friends can whine and cry about the Hulk in whatever country you're from, but over here where the movies are made... NO ONE HAS EVEN HEARD ABOUT THIS MOVIE. Want to know why? BECAUSE IT WASN'T GOOD. There are several foreign films playing at the theater near my home, and I like a lot of non-English and non-American movies. Mechenoset's was not one of them.

American movies suck? Go watch The Departed. That movie was powerful.

If you hate America and it's culture so much, you're probably a racist and a sexist too. Enjoy your crappy life.

reply

It's interesting that you should pick "The Departed" to use as an example of a good American film. Perhaps you weren't aware that it is in fact a remake of the 2002 Hong Kong crime thriller "Infernal Affairs".

Hollywood seems to be remaking a lot of foreign films these days? Or cannibalising it's historical classics.

Personally, I don't care if Mechenosets ever comes out in the USA. It is after only one country in a big world. I'm not going around claiming it's the greatest film ever or anything, just that it had some interesting ideas in it.

I have to wonder really though, that if you hated the film so much, why would you hang around on a forum just to slate everyone else's thoughts on it?

I don't like to throw around labels like "troll" very much, but hey - if the shoe fits...

1. If Hulk a good movie, than i'm Cinderella.
2. Hulk is available worldwide not because it is a good movie (it is not), but just because of marketing and channels of distribution of hollywood production.

Just like Coca-Cola is not a good drink (it is chemical and dangerous for stomach), but it is available because of marketing, promotion and distribution.

The same for fast-food. If it is available everywhere, doesn't mean it is good.

3. Many good movies and video products from all around the world are not available on american market because of monopolism and protectionism of American companies. They do everything to not allow foreign production appear on market. They just don't need competition on their market.
