People really think Norbit is a social commentry on obesity?

That would be too easy and deliberate, don't you think? Think about it this movie was about attacking black stereotypes.

Rasputia always had a different hairstyle, loud and tacky clothes, hostile for no reason, bad attitude and she thought she looked good leaving the house everyday, she had no shame and didn't pretend to be anything but herself. Her brothers were bullies and criminals, no parents, grew up rough and etc. Kate's fiance ended up having children with different mothers that he wasn't paying child support for. Rasputia was dark skinned and a total nightmare and Kate was a light skinned fairy princess. There were even pimps in the movie to really drive the point home!

What confuses me is how everyone (at least a good majority posting here) hasn't picked up on it. And that's the whole point because the filmmakers knew they can throw every negative thing associated with black people in the movie and get away with it because they know it's all going to come down to people focusing on an obese character's weight. Don't believe me? Go to any message board of a movie or tv show starring Melissa McCarthy, it's the same threads about how she's too fat and etc. And lest we forget that Eddie Murphy was the Klumps, the lovable but obese family in the Nutty Professor movies, so it can't be that Eddie hates fat people and is trying to make a bold statement regarding obesity.

Very interesting haddonfieldmemorial, I can see how stereotypes were used in this movie; it's also interesting to say that the filmmakers expected people to make a bigger deal about weight than race.
