You people realize that Eddie played 3 characters...

...in this movie. That alone should give it a 7.

It's a black movie. here on IMDB.com there is a group of white supremacists who automatically give any major black movie a 1 rating. That way the films rating is affected no matter how many 10 its gets.

bah, you are looking too much into it. I suggest you take the racial glasses off, so you can have a clearer view on the picture.

Now, If you look at the ratings in detail you will see that when they are separated based on age, gender, and US vs non-US voters, they all have a close average rating that fluctuates around 3.7-3.8. I would say 9 out of 10 movies on here have their rating undeservedly low. There isn't anything out there that can surprise us anymore in terms of storyline and how it was done, everything we can think off has been done at least once already. What makes it worse is that most of the voters are like spoiled kids, they are so used to being pleased by the movie industry, that hardly anything thrown at them these days will satisfy them.

Mr. Murphy played THREE characters, none of whom are funny. There are many funny movies out there... this is not one of them. I would love for Murphy to make funny movies like he used to: Trading Places, the first one or two Beverly Hills Cop, or even Coming to America.

I don't know about that. I see some black movies with great ratings(a lot of them are on my list of favorites), but most of these black movies are bad.

Being black, it annoys me that most of the black movies are comedies AND they aren't funny. They were funny once or twice, but now it's getting too old. How about more dramatic movies, good comedies, horror movies, shoot hop on the supernatural creature bandwagon. I'd just like to see more of a variety with black movies and not the same old fat suit/I hate black men/women movies.

Wow, the card even gets played on IMDb? smh

It's obvious you've never seen the movie. It's really, really bad. I liked the first two Beverly Hills Cop movies, Trading Places, heck I even liked the Golden Child, although that was mainly for the female lead, so it has nothing to do with it being a "black" movie.

Edit: Double post mistake.

I think most fans give this a crappy rating because its a truly unfunny terrible film.

Look at Eddie Murphy in the early-mid-late 80s when he did 48 Hours, Trading places, Beverley Hills cop 1, The Golden child, & Coming to America. And I also think Metro (1997) was good.
But he is an actor who has ballsed away his career with too many cheesy unfunny unbelievable and dislikeable charatcters. And its no wonder why Hollywood has turned its back on him.

Wow, there are 11,381 white supremacists on Imdb! I wonder if all voted 1* on all Tyler Perry movies?

reply

You're a reverse racist. Totally untrue. You sound like a far left black sympathizer, and if you're white then you're overcome with white guilt. Or I could be completely wrong.

Why is this a "black" movie? Isn't it just a movie with a star that happens to be black? And yes, I suppose Rasputia represents a certain stereotype but again why is it a "black" movie? It's a people movie. It's a wacky comedy that I personally think is acquired taste hilarious but can also understand why some people would hate it.

4 years later, WHY? Doesn't matter if he played 147 parts. If the film sucked, it sucked. And Norbit sucked.
