Why are people so harsh on this movie. It had flaws, but it was a great movie for a LOT of laughs! :D

Actually it's a lot of black people, mostly obese black women, who hate the movie. They felt Murphy was attacking them by portraying Rasputia as unattractive, loud, rude, gluttonous and obnoxious while casting Thandie Newton who is thin and extremely attractive as the ideal woman. Many were also offended by Mr. Wong's views on black people.

Exactly: This is probably one of the top 5 films Eddie Murphy's ever done IMO, It wasn't meant to be taken that serious, it's just a real laugh fest. The only knock I give it is that it's meant to be a happy childlike love story of sotrs, and that's hard to do with raunchy comedy.
I agree that Eddie Murphy really enforced the negative stereotype of Black woman by playing Rasputia. I can see why some can be offended, but if you know a woman like that in real life, it makes the character even that much funnier and shows Eddie's genius.

I love this film.... i am white if it matters ....call me crazy , but i want to ask the question, ...is this eddie Murphys masterpiece?....when all considered , this IS a great film.... it HAS to be close to the top of the Eddie list.
Norbit is a definite rewatcher ....one of those films that gets better with age ----- i think i am on number 5
