School exterior is the old Readers Digest Building

FWIW - The exterior long-shots of the brick school building with the tall cupola, seem to be the old Readers Digest building in Mt.Kisco ("Pleasantville") NY. The cupola hides a tall chimney stack and the RD logo - a crouched, winged horse - can be seen, carved in stone at the four corners of the base of the cupola. Anyone know if any of the rest of the film was shot in Westchester County, NY?

It was shot in a Chicago suburb. Looks like Evanston, but I might be wrong. But I do know it was film here in Illinois. The original 20 minute short Fairies was shot "somewhere outside Chicago" that's what the credits say at the end.

The movie was filmed in the Chicago area. The building is a Catholic school that is closed. The priest in charge of the building graciously let them film there. The stage scenes are the actual stage/gym/multi-purpose area of the school.

It's possible the long shots of the school could be the Readers Digest building. If you listen to the Commentary track on the film, not too far into the film, the director mentions being in New York, and all of the cast living in a house that served as the interiors of the leading boy's home with his mother. So, I gathered from that that the film company was in the New York area for some work. Just listen to the Director's Commentary track, and you may get your answer. It is true that the interiors of the school were filmed in a Catholic school in Chicago, one that had been closed and had no students any longer, though the interior of the classroom was filmed in a different school in Chicago. Again, this info is on the Director's Commentary on the DVD.
