Temperature spoilers

Apologies if I'm just being thick here but I've never quite understood why the temperature keeps dropping. I'm sure that at one point in the game it is explained that the global cooling is a kind of countdown to the Indigo Child revealing her secret, and yet, in the ending when the Purple Clan win, the temperature still keeps dropping despite the secret being told, which implies that it was really the Purple Clan controlling the temperature all along. Does anyone know which it is, please?

It's not explained. I guess 'The world comes to it's end' is the explanation, but it doesn't make any sense.
But that's a general problem with this game, it has so many plot holes (like the ravens, they don't get explained) it's laughable. I really believe that after the first half of the game the writer was replaced by some nerd who writes fanfics and thinks Matrix and X-Files are the greatest things ever.
